I currently work for the best boss I've ever had - he's a grerat guy with way too much on his plate.
Also, it's been 4 months since the conversation where we talked annual compensation, still waiting for him to come through on his part, and that's not okay anymore.
letters gettin written.
Also - just found out that someone stole the (used) studded snow tyres from the side of my house yesterday - was going to replace them within another winter anyway - but @#$%, guess it'll be upfront this next winter vs most of the way through.

IT security issues making a 10 minute software install into a multi-week issue. I understand the need for IT control. I can only imagine the chaos that some of my former coworkers could have caused if they had admin privileges but this is getting ridiculous.

1. Just because you CAN doesn't mean you *SHOULD*
2. If you're hiring someone to do a job, let that person do their job . . . because #1
3. Make up your mind and learn to communicate . . . because #2
4. If its not right . . . #3.

What they tell you when they hire you for a Sales job: go out and sell. What they don't tell you: you'll have to sell to us too. If I spent 1/2 the time selling, that I do dealing w/internal crap, I'd be a wealthy man, and perhaps sane.
Re: Get Your Grump on Thursdays - Was (What's chapping my @ss today?)
Really bugs me that brick and mortar bike shops created the space for bike manufacturer's to thrive in and now the manufacturer's are turning there backs on the hands that feed them. Was just thinking about a new build and it will be influenced by which parts manufacturer controls its pricing in the bike shops best interest. Just my way of protesting the online apocalypse, something is just not right in the industry, some call it change, I call it greed.

First year of law school. Crunch time stress exacerbates more existential questions.
I am a Type B person finding myself in a distinctly Type A situation, wondering about the quality of life outcomes likely for a fresh JD in anno 2018. No clear resolution of that question in sight. California is $$$, always. Sigh.

I'm a Type B person stuck in a Type A career. It doesn't get easier. I have a Type B friend who put his JD to use helping people who need it. His quality of life is through the roof. Use your new skills for good and you'll be happy as a clam. And stay out of the corporate world. That's my advice and my grump.

Not sure what the punishment for two grumps is but I'll take it.
I live somewhere tolerance vastly outweighs intolerance as a wretched disease on society. About shuffled a lady in her 50's up to the citizen who felt a need to occupy the grocery store and politely intimate how much trouble they would be in they dared intimidate my mother in the same fashion they were this one. Very likely in too sophisticated a manner for them to grasp the lack of physicality implied.

It's Friday but does it still count if the incident started yesterday? Got a call from my wife that we didn't have water at the house. We're on a well...new well pump time. The joys of living in semi rural america.
Re: What's chapping my @ss today?
I know its only Wednesday...
We had a party with our friends at our place since it was the first time we felt ok leaving our baby with my parents overnight. we went all out to have a good time, I picked up a small keg so we could enjoy some draft beer we made some food, etc.
Buddy of mine threw up on our white rug and our new sectional. The rug is gone even though it was a nice heavy wool piece and we bought a cheap one for the time being since the baby plays on it and there are no good options locally for nice rugs. This morning im still soaking the couch in vinegar/water to get the smell out so I can then put baking soda on it to get the vinegar smell out. 5 days later.
the kicker? he stood there looking at the couch throwing up apparently. I didn't see it happening.

The rhetoric about the new minimum wage bill for California ($15 by 2022). Lots of people outraged. When you drill down to the core of their outrage, it all boils down to “In [19XX] I worked XX hours per week for $XX/hour! $15/hour is too high and low skilled workers aren’t worth that!” That’s it. An emotional response. Get over it already.
Re: What's chapping my @ss today?
I've been preparing for a trial for a while - small potatoes except to my clients, and enough meat to it that it took real work to get squared away. It's been continued a couple of times already and today was supposed to be the day it went for sure. I've been not sleeping much, eating lousy, minimal exercise: And I got there today and the court couldn't hear it. Continued again.

Ok, so the Argonaut was consumed in the Great Southwest Frameworks Fire of 2016. I was pretty certain that I'd survive a year or so with just three road bikes (Red GT, MX Leader, and BLE) while giving the insurance people time to settle with Dave Cheakas. Then Lewellyn puts up shots of the Colossus. A 44mm downtube!!! Fillet brazed!!! Big Headtube!!! The slick two bolt seatpost clamp. I even like the graphics. I had already rebuilt the parts for the Argonaut, they're just sitting in a box.
It can only be so bad though, even if I ordered one now, it would likely be the end of the year before it would ship and the shipping would be many hundreds of dollars.
Re: What's chapping my @ss today?

figure out what that costs, tell insurance that is your replacement value... enjoy having a custom bike made and enjoy the other bikes currently in your possession. Sorry you lost a bike that you love, but I wouldn't let that loss keep me from being on one that keeps the passion high. getting a CAAD10 out of it would suck, in comparison.
