Re: Project: One photo a day (but not necessarily every day)
Nice @monadnocky. You are correct.
A little deeper research -
Indian pipe (Monotropa uniflora), a saprophytic native wildlflower. Saprophytes have no chlorophyl and thus do not make sugar and starch through photosynthesis but rather gain all the nutrients they need by absorbing them through their roots from decaying organic matter.

The really nutty thing is that people are consuming them because they reportedly have a psychedelic effect, despite being mildly toxic.
It's an urban myth, but nutters keep eating them despite the subsequent nausea. The psychedelic qualities are presumably due to expectancy effect only.

Spathodea campanulata, African tulip tree(aka fountain tree, pichkari or Nandi flame). they're scattered throughout SB area in small numbers, native to tropical dry forests of Africa.

I did not take this pic so mods delete if not appropriate here. From the Creek Fire burning in the CA Sierra Nevada Mtn, 80,000 acres and no containment, pyrocumulonimbus cloud which look like explosions from a distance, are fire-driven weather systems causing lightning(generate their own lightning) to strike areas downwind along with erratic and gusty surface winds. CA is experiencing record heat throughout the state, 100 in San Francisco and 121 in Woodland Hills just outside LA yesterday, 9/6. 2020 has been a really fucked year on so many levels.

We've had a houseboat on this lake for 25 years. Each morning I grab a drink, binoculars and a book and go up top to watch this scene play out. The last couple of years, these two cousins never fail to join me. The photo/memory puts a smile on my heart and the scenery is breathtaking.

I came home yesterday to find a snake in the driveway with a frog in its mouth.
Unfortunately I continue to be unable to upload photos to the Salon.
