Women's voices when they do the back of the throat, gutteral, "creaky voice" thing. "Vocal Fry" as it's known. I guess some of the young women pop stars do it. Lot's of women on NPR do it. Probably younger men do it to. Like finger nails on a blackboard. So, get off my lawn.

Being the department's de facto IT guy - because, you know, I'm in my 20's and know how to attach a file to an email.
Coworker has computer problem:
"my computer doesn't work"
"okay, just try restarting it and see if that works"
"let me show you on Sara's computer, it works there."
"okay, why don't you go ahead and try restarting?"
"see, what it should do is..."
"alright, lets just try restarting and logging back in"
"I can't do what I need to do in my program"
"oh, well, I don't have any suggestions for you"
I can't imagine being a real IT professional. You guys have my deepest respect.

Commuting by bike...my sixth sense of reading the intentions of car drivers is still pretty sharp but for the sake of (insert you favorite false idol) can you please:
1) use your turn signal
2) give me some room in "bike lane"
3) do not pass me to beat the light and then take a right hand turn or better yet pull in front of me and block the effing bike lane and the cross walk because you missed light
4) do not beep at me to move while waiting at a red light because you want to make right hand turn - even though a sign clearly states no turn on red
Bike Commuters:
1) blowing through lights
2) stopping in the cross walks
3) in ability to start from a stop and ride away in a straight line
4) Cat 6 racing
5) swarming the cars at red lights, instead of everyone filing up in a single line - there are always a few ass clowns that pull up on the left of car and then pull in front of the car and in the cross walk - you can feel the tension and angst build in the drivers

Drives me nuts for some reason. 62 miles is nothing to sneeze at- it doesn't sound any more impressive when you convert it to 100km.
Commencing push-ups.
It irks me the same as a 13.1 sticker on a car. It's like bragging "I only committed half way".

Stopped on a side street as a black F-type rolls by on the main street. At idle. I can't even hear it over the street noise.
How is it legal for a car that sounds that good to have its idle set below 5K?
Re: What's chapping my @ss today?
I seriously read the first line as, "got a new mistress on Sunday. Wife loves it."
I was already thinking, then what the fuck is the grump. But, a shitty mattress does in rack suck.
Yea, yea with the push ups.

While at work, an operation that I've done a hundred times fails since the latest blockpoint release. I call in a ticket to the system illuminati, who come back today and say they got it to work. Okay... So WHY was I not able to get it to work? I can't call in tickets on every job...

This is good to know in the event I give tubs a try again.

I'll do some push-ups.
Don't worry, I'll pay you in beer and s'mores.
My grump list this week has an item from every aspect of my life. At least all the beer I'm drinking is helping me sleep at night and, strangely, seems to be helping my fitness.

Saab: nose wheel steering failure is better than nose wheel failure...keep it in perspective.
Two bigass storms coming in and I don't have any beer.

This is very true.
If you don't have beer, get beer.
They fixed the steering overnight. Flew in the requisite computer. It's a conventional airplane but 'steer by wire'. True story. And the artificial feel built into the steering is better than the artificial feel built into the flight controls.
And the cherry on the sundae was an en route message asking if we could take the airplane to ORF instead of to PHL. It was an empty airplane and we were happy to do so. Got home early and even though I was dead tired, I was slightly less dead tired than the original plan of flying via PHL.
Get your beer for the hurricane party. You can't control nature. But you can control your beer supply.
Re: Get Your Grump on Thursdays - Was (What's chapping my @ss today?)
I've been driving more than usual lately.
On Sunday, I had to brake hard because a WRX STi pulled out onto the highway. Made no effort to accelerate, just 30mph into the travel lane.
Yesterday, a Miata was holding up 6-8 cars because it was passing a truck going 60 at 61.
I expect this sort of behavior from mouth breathers in Camry's. But when operators of enthusiast automobiles are behaving this way, its time for Google to take shit over, sad to say.

Are you sure it wasn't jitahs throwing shade on fatties?
Re: Get Your Grump on Thursdays - Was (What's chapping my @ss today?)
I was planning to go to the airshow this weekend and drool all over the De Havilland Mosquito they have coming in for a flight show.
Stupidly excited to see it.
Client problem means I'm getting on a plane instead tomorrow morning and flying to the NWT, which by the way is on fire.
I want to go to the airshow.

'Round here the v6 Camrys and Accords do the lanes 2-5 slalom, giving the metaphorical finger to the left lane parkers.

Good luck in recovery.
My grump is I'm 5 years post discectomy and my back still hurts. Scar tissue and nerve adhesions are the likely cause. Learning to live with chronic pain.
Re: Get Your Grump on Thursdays - Was (What's chapping my @ss today?)
I know I'm late to this week's party but I am only just staying lucid long enough now to do anything.
Monday 4:00 am flew half way across the country for my now new Mon to Fri gig (thats a grump for another day) to only contract a chest infection and end up in bed in the hotel the whole week with only about 6 hours work done on Monday. I can honestly say Ive not been that ill before and the docs at the hospital on Tuesday were surprised at its speed of 'maturing'. Getting better now but a long way from feeling normal.

The Politicians who are “leading” our country. ALL PARTIES. The truth simply can’t find it’s way out of their mouths on anything…and it’s our fault for re-electing the same old same old no matter what they do or say, so they know they can say anything they want.
From local to national, it’s pathetic, and yet we’re still the best nation in the world, in spite of our “leaders”.
And I pulled the entire valve straight out of a brand new tube while removing my Silca pump head …I was mad for about 4 seconds before thinking karma got me for bitching about stuff.
