Get Your Grump on Thursdays - Was (What's chapping my @ss today?)

I buy health insurance through the company I work for. You get a discount if you do certain things - keep up to date on health screenings, don't smoke, if your values for things like cholesterol, blood pressure or weight are not good you have to do certain remediation efforts. The health insurance company has a screen on the web page showing your 'points' -you need a certain number to be eligible. Three columns, labeled "I do" "I show" "I get" and the last column has the required number in a circle. It is not clear whether that's future or past tense. I'm in a foul mood this morning so I email them. This is part of the answer:

"Normally the circle is colored and maybe (sic) part way colored when you have not completed all the points."

May be? Is it or isn't it? Is the number invariable and we're relying on some chance the graphics are accurate to determine the status?

James Dolan still owns the Knicks and in classic style has made a decision to replace the GM who helped repair the team after the Isaiah Thomas fckupathon with the guy who hired Isaiah Thomas and started the whole fckupathon. Why? Who knows? Dolan probably woke up feeling insecure in some way and that was that. A bolt of lightning from heaven is what we need. Man oh man. Just a thousand volts from God in the right place. Deus ex machina.

Standing water in my laundry room. Not coming from washer hoses. Hot water leaking in wall somewhere just downstream of the water heater. Sheetrock wet. Call in to plumber. Pull baseboards, cut away wet sheetrock.

Not getting paid to work and the elected morons who think we are a legitimate bargaining chip.

Petty grump here... Burning a couple of backlogged useitorloseit vacation days to get a long MTB ride in before the rains today, but ending up tending to a kid home sick from school. I still had 9/10 sick days I could have used. Think I'll install a new garbage disposal today.

Lost my blender in the move. Where the eff does a blender go? What bugs me is that it's a really nice one.... Not quite Vitamix nice, but high end KitchenAid nice. Grrr......

no one likes lines at the grocery store, i get it, i endure. however there are some certain someones, and you can spot them a mile away,and you know they are going to take longer. you know they are gonna be doing "extra stuff" during the transaction. what that stuff is is a complete mystery to me still, despite this happening all the time. i don't know what is going on, even when i look/listen. i understand foods-stamps, paying w/a check, etc...but it's these quiet mysterious additional activities that drive me nuts. sometimes it looks like a little meeting going on. what is it? also: my local Shaw's, which sucks, is doing some sort of rachel ray dishes thing, it involves stamps. i guess if you collect enough you get free dishes. wtf. and they insist on asking you. do i look like i'm collecting rachel ray stamps so i can redeem them for a rachel ray casserole dish? jesus. just hand them out for gods sake to the, don't force other people to wait while you count out the number of stamps some dolt earned today, so they can collect them and bring them back and make us wait again while they redeem them for cheap ass crap.

Tornado touched down outside my work building on Monday. F-1 or F-2 depending on who you ask. About 40 cars with broken windows due to debri/construction fencing being thrown onto them. Listening to the conversations around me over the following two days, it was amazing all the exaggeration.

Father-in-law is spending the next week with us... Just flew in last night. Wife just got cleared for full-duty after C-section birth almost 8 weeks ago. So now that she's okay to make up for lost time, she's feeling wigged out about doing so with her dad in the house.

New daughter got her first set of shots on Tuesday. She's been "fussy" since (meaning she'll start wailing for no reason and continue inconsolably for a couple hours).

And I've been riding the SS MTB on my lunch times all week because it's the only opportunity I have to ride. It's been wet and cold. Today's forecast was for mostly sunny. Wake up, check hourly weather forecast, check the radar map -- nothing. Get ready, take the bike outside... it's raining.

I guess rule #5 means I'm a bad-ass...

The 508 has had plenty of route changes due to road closures already - and now, with the shutdown, the organizers have had to scramble to come up with a route that doesn't use government land. Ugh.

The NYTimes article filed with the linked maps says the Times included illegal immigrants and resident aliens who do not qualify under the Affordable Health Care Act in any event. California has accepted the act and changes to Medicaid. Poor U.S. citizens in California now have access to health care not available to those in the Southeast States, Alaska and others which refuse to sign off on the new laws.

I would say good try, but really, your post does not qualify.

Not necessarily a grump but a thought-

Carl Sagan (one of my heroes) once said that it had been postulated that there may be no sentient intelligence in the universe due to the fact that once any lifeform reaches a certain level of technological and social sophistication, they will, within a relatively brief period of time, achieve the ability to annihilate themselves and will most certainly do so (note that Sagan didn't necessarily believe this).

This appears to be true for our current political system (i.e., our political "evolution" has actually gotten to the point of burning down the house if a given faction doesn't get their way). Get used to it. It won't be the last time this happens.

this cold/flu has stuck around for going on 3 weeks now. I had a real crappy sleep last night because of a brutal dry hack, which bordered on making me throw up a couple of times due to its violence.
