Our youngest kid just received his first admittance to engineering school...four more to hear from. Needless to say he's pumped and the kids always breathe a little sigh of relief when the first letter arrives. In this case the admittance was in the form of a text, with a video, which will be followed up with a letter. That's the way kids roll these days.

We decided we wanted more land, so we found a place and our under contract a town over from where we are now. Contingent on selling our place.
Two low ball offers in 3 weeks then a bidding war and we our under contract for asking price now!
More land is needed for crazy dog people.

This afternoon I shut down and power off. Tomorrow I stuff myself on one airplane and then another and travel to a faraway place with Karen and for a week we're going to walk around and see things with new eyes. It's not just a week off, it's a week off with Karen.
Plus the cats will be looked after by a pro, they like her better than us we're pretty sure.
I passed the Certified Information Security Manager exam about two weeks ago and received my official credential yesterday.
The application requires at least five years verifiable relevant experience, a passing score on the exam, and continuing professional credit hours to keep the credential current. I am excited because less than 40% of test takers pass the exam on the first try and less than 30,000 people worldwide hold the CISM credential.
It is a great complement to the Certified Information Systems Security Professional credential I already have.
Yanks are one win away from the World Serious.
Joint 40th bday party for my wife and I tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing lots of friends and some cousins.
For the first time in over a year, I hold a regular schedule in November. No more standby/reserve!

A few weeks after graduating from college with a degree in Middle Eastern studies (he can read and write Persian) my son is offered a 10-week paid internship with the Defence Intelligence Agency, the military version of the CIA. He finishes his internship and a few weeks later he’s offered a job with the DIA as an Intelligence Officer. A few weeks after starting work he’s giving briefings at Quantico. Damn!

Nice job raising good kids, all you people. My hs senior is still working thru options but she has a summer course under her belt and knows she likes doing the thing she wants to study. Breakfast out and blade runner 2049 in the evening.

The first year was great. The last 18 months have been painful. Life is to short to have a job that sucks your will to live.
This is the first time in my 20+ year professional career that I walked away from a job without a new one lined up. The wife and I discussed it so as of January 1st I am going to be a kept man and work on finishing my masters degree that I have been talking about for 20 years. I get a year.
This is not a mid-life crisis because I really like my wife and the other areas of our life. I have just been doing the same thing professionally for too many years and I am bored out of my mind. While starting a year of school and bikes rides in January in the Northeast may not be the best timing, I am going to enjoy every minute of it.
Five years retired and it still fits.
