On the bike at the moment...between parking garage intervals. On my first lap around campus almost killed. I am in the bike lane roundin a sharp curve. Traffic furniture to my left. Chick threads the needle
and about takes me out. She saw me and my lights as she gunned it around the corner. We get round the corner she is flying. See a cop heading towards us. She slams on her brakes. Speed limit round campus is 30 I think. She probably is going 2x the posted speed. Cop keeps going. She gets the red light exiting campus. I happen to roll up on her shortly thereafter. I casually stop next to her. She rolls down her window. I offer a good morning. She is in fatigues. I ask her what is the hurry. My guess is morning PT. A local unit uses part of the UCF athletic complex for PT. anyway I tell her she about took me out. She didn't seem to care and kept her head in her phone. Disappointing considering she was in her fatigues. Only regret I have is not thanking her for serving our Country...before she floored it.

My grump.

Red Eye flights from the west coast to the east coast are not a party bus nor are they a place to get drunk. What the heck is going on when people need to catch a buzz between 12a and 5:30a EST on a Thursday evening going to EWR? Feel bad for the flight crews that have to deal with these goof balls.

Although one can understand trying to blunt the pain of going home to EWR...


Some days at work I feel like I'm living the child's story about how everyone wants bread but nobody will actually bake the bread. I used to think 20% of the workforce did work but lately thinking it's more like 5% Grumpy at spoiled scientists who want more resources for their pet projects but who cannot enumerate (or even describe qualitatively) the value to the business or the magnitude of the requested resource. Just "more".

I've taken to kicking people out of my office. This will no doubt result in remedial HR training in 2014 because I'm a big meanie.

Well I was grumpy when it happened...but I feel better now. Just helped a damsel in distress while I was pumping gas. Her car wouldn't start so I helped her out and got her on her way. Now I feel better.

and please don't p/u when on the moto...especially if carrying precious growlers.

I don't care what political agenda it's in "support" of, the superiority complex is extremely obnoxious.

"The Room Moms", not room moms in general, but a specific cabal I refer to in quotes. This insidious bunch of pea brains butt kisses, cajoles, passive-agressive-s their way into my kid's school every year. Lots of moms would like to be a room moms but this group won't allow anyone else the chance. Oh, and it's not because they want to help all the students, they just want to keep tabs on the teachers and helicopter their kids. It also gives them a chance to scope out the next grade teachers so they can hand pick Little Shithead's perfect match for next year. Little Shithead doesn't like Sam or Katie or Bobby? Oh don't worry, they won't be in little shithead's class. Hmmm, I think Little Shithead would do better in this reading group. I am Little Shithead's mom, and it is my job to engineer and monitor every fucking possible scenario in his life. I just want what's best for Little Shithead.

Wow...you want what's best for your kid. What a concept. Do you love your kids, too? That is such a unique trait amongst parents, maybe I should try that. Maybe what is best for your kid is to leave him the fuck alone, let him struggle and pick himself up and figure something out for himself for once.

Factory has an issue. It's been around for years. I've been grousing about the tooling issues for some 20 years -- using holes to locate parts is GREAT for a Weber grill, but when you have tolerances on the order of a couple of short-hairs-width, it ain't gonna get you there. Oh, and don't use shear members to locate the main structure and expect everything else to fit up perfectly. So I "volunteer" for a root-cause-action team. They want me to be on-call like a first year medical intern. Fuck that.

I'm tired.

On the plus side, my wife actually suggested I take daughter-the-elder to Portland this weekend and go to the Oregon Handmade Bike Expo. She's a keeper.

Regions where the only jobs are to call people who have jobs to ask if they can talk to the person who handles the gas bill.

I don't hate these people. I hate the conditions that caused it...

The overwhelming lack of critical thinking in our society. There is no lack of people getting emotional and fired up about an issue. But thats not enough. Backing that up with an honest analysis based on available information, is equally, if not more important.

Kids still going $150,000 in debt for a degree that has little or no chance of producing enough earnings to pay that back in two lifetimes.

Blindly accepting whatever your 'team' tells you (Red or Blue team). "everything your team does is wrong, everything my team does is right"



The overal decline of the abilty of the population to think (not repeat memorized bs) disturbs me deeply.

I'm having a really hard time being grumpy after reading this, and it's pissing me off.

This is the most beautiful September I can recall in my adult life and I've had precious little time to ride. Hoping that October is half as good, because I'm going to ride A LOT.

Woke up on Tuesday morning to see the side door of my garage had been crowbarred open and my backyard gate swinging in the wind.

Three bikes missing: my road bike, my wife's road bike, and my commuter.

I've actually been missing my commuter the most.

Insurance company adjuster is being difficult.

I may end up rekindling my old flame with cheap aluminum frames and Sora.

I wish my overweight female coworkers wouldn't make nervous jokes about their weight in conversations. I realize it's an insecure defense mechanism, but it makes others uncomfortable in wondering how to properly respond.
