For the Love of God: Crickets!!
The why and wherefore escapes me, but I am waging a pitched battle against crickets that get into the house in search of a perfectly resonant corner or chamber where they can project their monochromatic soliloquy into space. I love crickets, they are plenty cute and their songs are part of spring. But they are loud and tireless and if two get in at the same time, they do a saturating rendition of infinity. Also in cricket world, size does not matter. I kept looking for one in the mechanism of one of our sliding doors, and I couldn't find it. Just some kind of tiny spider. That was the cricket! A grain of rice is bigger. But the sound out of that thing! He should get as many girlfriends as he is seeking, because that sound out of something that small is a work of art. But I threw him outside into the night anyway.

Textbook case in favor of a cat.
Re: For the Love of God: Crickets!!
I'm not into catch-and-release when it comes to crickets, especially at night. Fortunately, they aren't a thing in NW Arizona, but they are in the Flagstaff area, especially in mountain cabins. I was this close to burning it all down one evening.

Due to my misspent youth I've been dealing with a moderate case of tinnitus for as long as I can remember. Consequently I don't have a huge amount of sympathy for Jorn, and I know that it's a darn good thing he doesn't have to experience what I "hear" just about every waking moment of my life... ; )

The good thing is the tinnitus drowns out the crickets. And in my case, most everything else.
Re: For the Love of God: Crickets!!
Twenty-seven years of running steam plants have left me with tinnitus too. I also have 20% hearing loss in my left ear and 30% in my right. I slept across from a 120 db vane axial fan on my last submarine. But still, the crickets burn through. As a bonus, I can't sleep without a fan.

Bill,
There's an internet meme in there somewhere, but I will let you have at it with Dall-E

Some years in Dallas, the cricket population explodes. I recall finding crickets hopping up the steps on the 15th floor looking for food and water. Dead end, unfortunately, for them.

Not necessarily, if they can find a way out to the roof - many types of crickets can fly.

In this corner of the country I have no experience to share, but if I live a bit longer I may.
Here we have chorus frogs, small strong croaks, but not annoying and cute.
I feel your pain. Silence is golden.

Perhaps, but still not as nice as going to sleep listening to gentle waves coming ashore.
Re: For the Love of God: Crickets!!
I live with tinnitus in both ears, so crickets don't bother me. Sorry I could not be of more help.
