Another compressor Q (As it relates to painting)

My current shop has a very large air compressor. Something like 120 gallons. It's my shop mate's.

I probably need to find a new shop in the next 2 months and will need an air compressor.

I'd probably do just fine with a pancake or other small compressor but I'd like to spray a bike every once in a while. CFM isn't something I've had to consider until now.
The primer gun has a CFM rating ~ 8. But getting a compressor rated for 8+ CFM is 200% overkill 97% of the time.

Since I'm not spraying body panels can I get away with something like a 30-gallon 1.5hp delivering 5.5-6 CFM or am I asking for total failure?

To be clear, I'm not looking for show finish (that's what Black Magic is for).
