Totally OT but.. does anyone here shoot black powder guns?
I was thinking of getting a couple used cap and ball pistols for my wife and I - like the Navy revolvers from BITD. Thought it would be fun to go shooting with them. We both find the time period that these guns were used to be a fascinating part of US history, and often visit Civil War battlefields in our area. My question is, where to buy them? I'd like to spend less than $200 apiece for them. Wondering if there are brick and mortar shops we could go check some out, rather than just ordering some online. Do gun shops normally carry something like that?
To give a little backround on us, we dont own any guns but have both shot a fair amount of them over our lives. So we're not strangers to fireams.
Suggestions welcome. Thanks! :)

Cabelas and Bass Pro Shop if there’s one near to you is a good place to start, as is a *good* gunshop. *Good* meaning one that’s doesn’t sell only black guns. $200 is going to be on the bottom end of price ranges, depending on which model you choose.
The saying ‘cleanliness is next to godliness’ is particularly true with black powder firearms. Black powder invites corrosion so keeping your toys very clean is very important.

Thanks, that's a good idea, I didnt even think of Cabela's. There's a huge one not too far from us, I'll head over there in the next couple of days and see what they have. And yeah, I'm planning on keeping them clean, I know what's a big part of the maintenance. Appreciate the tips. :)

You can build those things from kits as well.

Great place to gather info. I've done the blackpowder hunting thing, but never pistols.

Yeah interesting stuff, thanks for posting that. I could see building a kit pistol, too.

If you want the North American Handmade Black Power equivalent.
Keepers of the Flint.
Note, bring munchies when shooting BP, the burned Crisco smells like bacon.

Ah, go big. Find somebody that works in a machine shop and have them turn you a cannon. That was very popular around home when I was a kid for the 4th of July. Those could be very loud and if your neighbor happened to have an enormous water tank with one end cut off (no idea the circumstance) it was God's own subwoofer. Light the fuse, slide the cannon up in and for the next couple minutes listen to the echos roll back off the ridges.
