Yes there's a clear parallel with bikes.
The performance of a modern 911 far eclipses that of this old beast, by a way bigger margin than comparing similar generations of bikes, but the driving experience may not be better. Another difference is reliability, an older bike could be equal or better than a new one.
It's all about the ride, right? And a little style never hurts.

I love the classics. The Pegoretti is cool but I've had the car behind it since I was 18. It's a 67 Mustang Coupe and in the warmer months, I drive it every weekend. It rattles a little, handles like a tractor, and the 289ci V8 has way less horsepower than the V6 ecoboost in my truck.
The Pegoretti is painted in Gulf Livery to pay homage to the Ford GT40's of the late 60's. The Argonaut is currently being painted in the original Gulf Livery of dark blue and marigold.
I know I'll never own a Porsche, but I'm a big miata fan. I like monster miatas...they're the most "American" car I can think of. But it can be just as much (sometimes more) wringing out an underpowered car instead of having to be afraid of what you're driving. The GT3RS I drove made me nervous.
Also that car is pretty.
I posit that one hasn't truly enjoyed motor cars until they have had the arse end of a 911 break loose. But I might be biased.

I drove the GT3 on the street and it felt like I wasn't really DRIVING it...more guiding it down the road. Cold MPSS, cold ceramic brakes, drove like one of those drift trikes.Quote:

I watched this for the first time today. My first car - at 28 in 1999 because I'd always had bikes - was a 67 912. Bought by blowing the entirety of a $9500 inheritence left to me by my Grandfather in an attempt to not engage real adulthood, plus scratch an itch I'd held forever.
Mine was also a bit of a basket case and I had to earn - on bike wrenching wages - my initial investment again in engine, transmission rebuilds and 3-point belt install costs. I loved the thumbs up and was prouder of that vehicle than any I've owned, but it really does take a village to keep something as niche as a 4 cylinder (genuine) Porsche going in Canada.
I could never get the right team together and sold it before things got out of hand.

My father's original 1968 912 ordered by him from the factory and picked up the day I was born in the foreground. Stem to stern restoration done in the 90's. My '73 2002 in the background. Two cars into one 1989 project. Great machines to roar around in and easy to work on.
