Stock tank / soak tank -- what're you using?

I'm finding the need to up the size of my tank (currently using buckets) to soak off flux. Would like to do a heated unit, but the tank itself is the first step. I looked at stock tanks, but it seems they're all large and shallow. Any one got something more narrow and upright? Is it heated?

Where are you looking? I've seen some that are oriented in a vertical direction. Somebody a few years ago was selling a stainless tank pre threaded for a heater etc. I still use a sink.

when you use those boxes, do you fill them with hot or cold tap water ?

i've been using a bucket and hot water, but sometimes the brass flux seems a little stubborn for that, which is invariably when they end up in the bath overnight, silver flux seems to come off really easily though

I fill it with water. After a while when it evaporates or get splashed out, I add more. Rainwater is good too. #noverthink

I have a stainless hydrotherapy tank I found. It has a whirlpool that circulates fairly aggressivly, and I added a heating element. I can fit about 2-3 frames half way and and flip after about 10-15m. I have a larger stainless tank I hope to eventually set up for doing a full run of bikes in at once, but that is waaaay back burnered.

My post-braze flux removal system closely resembles a kiddie-pool.

I change it out every couple of years. I got my newest one from a neighbor's refuse on trash day......But they do carry them at Piggly-Wiggly grocery stores for about $6.99

That's a tandem frame, but it'll take a solo in one go.

I built a wooden box. Lined it with a pond liner and heat it with a water bed heater. After 14 years the heater died. Now I use it when I'm not in a rush to get the flux off. If I'm in a rush I use straight hot water in a 5 gallon bucket.

What about water that is left after soaking, can it be poured down the drain, or it has to be discarded in some special way?

I'm guessing it depends on your location. When I lived in Seattle working for match, the local environmental inspector came by. She was very helpful and thorough. She read over the MSDS sheets that come along with the flux we used (Gasflux) and concluded it was a non-issue to pour the water down the drain. I had an inspector in MN tell me the same thing.

when i had an environmental inspector come by in OH, i was also told it was fine to just pour down the drain. also gasflux user. a data point, and a signature test for me...
