As a kid I always thought Bandstand felt dated and stale. I definitely preferred Soul Train.

I'll bet he was being carded up to a week before he passed away.

I'm getting so old I can remember back when I was younger than Dick Clark.

I was going to say the same thing. I always thought he was stuck in the early '60s, and American Bandstand had the atmosphere of a dance party supervised by a high school principal. Never understood how the New Year's Eve thing made any sense. After the last time I saw him, seeing his obituary I was shocked at how much younger he was than I had thought
