A new american steel tubing supplier
I am considering applying my skills towards creating a series of American sourced steel tubes. They will use 185KSI Air Hardening and 4130 alloys. They will be sourced from a company that has produced around 100 million butted tubes. We will need to determine the minimum number of SKU to begin with. In light of the fact that True Temper has announced their terminating production of frame tubes who is interested in American sourced tubes from a very experienced team?

Mark -
Count me very interested. Thanks for possibly throwing a hat into the ring.
Re: A new american steel tubing supplier
Hi Mark, I'm going to move this over to The Path within the FrameForum to make sure it gets in front of the builders on the forum.
Re: A new american steel tubing supplier
Just curious ; is 4130 "high end" enough once you go through the trouble of a custom frame?

You have my attention Mark.
Re: A new american steel tubing supplier
This is definitely of interest. Will your product be manufactured in the USA?

It is.
Enough said.

Hi Steve
We need to decide on tapers, diameters, and some bends. I will probably need to gather info by building a database from your folks inputs/ needs. I was thinking about your input as being particularly pertinent (if I may). Of course we can't make everything that may be desired instantly.
Thanks.

Absolutely.
I could rattle them off the top of my head as far as 29er / 27.5" MTB's

All I want is the tubes to continue building these.

35 and 38mm x 750 long tubes in the 9/6/9 or 1/7/1 range would be high on my list. Basically something to replace the Supertherm down tubes.
A version of the HOXTT2 would be nice as well.

I am, most definitely. Though I wouldn't even register as statistical noise on any output chart.

I'm interested and echo this.

Re: A new american steel tubing supplier
There's a lot of fork tubes and steerers along with the main tubes and seatstay/chainstay tubes I will be missing when TT quits. I'll be happy to buy American if available. Very disappointed TT is jilting the USA market. They sure didn't help by running Mr. Panceti out of the market did they? He had to sell all of his stock at below market, (wow I'm glad I bought some). But now they had 1 distributor, hmm we're closing. Opp's now we're closing shop. Oh well, maybe the USA isn't anything anymore. Hmm.
Re: A new american steel tubing supplier
The release of Supertherm tubing coincided with a major shift in riding style around here. I can't imagine riding many of the lines I now frequent with less metal underneath me. 34.9 and 38.1 x 750mm (+), 1/.7/1 or there abouts with long end butts and a center short enough for an average length sloping top tube. As others have noted it would be really sad to see the end of this tubing. Bread and Butter.

You got it totally wrong, yo.
KP was picking that stuff up on the cheap from companies that dropped the tubes from the lineup - he had some great chain stays that were used on Gary Fisher "Rigs" for awhile, for example.
Hie own short-lived offering "Heavy Mettle" was a non-heat treated Reynolds alloy.
You want someone to blame, blame companies like Surly who wanted tubes cheaper then what many people are now saying was "Underpriced" tubing.

Don't worry, Man - we'll have Nor-AZ Tubing as long as I'm in it.
