Which welder for starting out with brazing
(I'm sure there are existing threads on this, but my searching didn't surface anything...)
I'm reading about and researching building my first frame. I have no prior welding experience, and plan to make a lugged steel frame.
What should I look for in a welder, and what specific welders should I look into?
From what I've read, I'm thinking I should start with propane.
Thanks in advance.
Re: Which welder for starting out with brazing
Go to page 2 of this frame forum (you are on page 1 now). Look for the subject title "acetylene vs. propane". You will find a lot of your questions answered there. By the way "welding" is the term used when parent metals are melted together as well as filler rod to create a joint. Brazing is the method used to melt a lower temperature filler metal (like silver or brass) to hold steel tubes together.
Re: Which welder for starting out with brazing
I read that a couple times, even the list at the end, but for some reason it didn't "click" until now that the propane setup doesn't require a separate "machine". Still wrapping my head around it all but it's starting to come together. Thanks for the clarification.
