Dead simple recipe for a special occasion:
1) Cut fresh figs in half
2) Put a good dob of fresh goat cheese on top
3) Put in the oven for long enough for the figs to soften and the cheese to have a very light brown crust around the edges.
To die for!

Fresh figs go well with roasted pork recipes.
Make yourself some jam.
Figure out a way to get that flavor into some beer.
really versatile fruit.

Go figure, yesterday I made an quick plum and fresh fig jam.
My sis taught me how to make fig and almond jam so from memory I could tell you BUT the Silver Spoon tells the story better AND I found an blog with that recipe and legit pics. to share.
My g-d the Silver Spoon recipe is good with just the addition of almonds. Sis sometimes uses whole vanilla bean instead of cinnamon. When I visit her in Paris it is a garantee that there will be a jar of that on the table to go with toast and coffee in the morning. Heaven.

If you have plenty, I'd try fig w/hot peppers and make a jam out of that. The fig flavor would go well with some heat.

Take those figs, slice them 1/2 way through lengthwise, stuff some blue cheese in them, wrap them up in prosciuto, and put them under the broiler until the cheese melts a bit. Heaven in your mouth.

Make a fig jam: figs, sugar, some lemon. Get a pizza dough, place fig jam, some prosciutto, some rosemary, gorgonzola and some whole figs on it. Season it with salt and pepper. Bake it. Put some good balsamic, or even better, balsamic reduction on it. Eat it. Goes well with anything that is a grand cru with the name domaine de la romanee-conti on it. Or whatever wine you have with you. If you do have the DRC, call me.

It is that wonderful time of year again when my secret fig tree is giving fruit like mad. Today's haul is a quart of ripe figs. I think these are destined to become jam with almonds.

After two solid frosts recently, it was a race with the deer and weather to the old orchard for the feral and semi-feral apples. Here's some of the afternoon's bounty:

We just closed on our house sale yesterday. That's one more hurdle toward the house purchase... In the back yard: trees for apple, peach, pear, quince, and FIG! Also grape vines. All I need is a bee hive and I'd do my own fig mead.

So, fig and apricot season have passed but we're now up to the eyes with pomegranates from our tree. Unlike the formers, pomegranates can't be frozen to deal with later. We've juiced a bunch, made a handful of foods with them, and even pickled a couple of jars worth of the seeds (which are amazing, and I'm shocked that this is not something regularly done). Any other ideas for how to use them? We probably have 40 softball-sized pomegranates that will be ripe in the next two weeks and we already have two gallon-size ziplocs full of pomegranate juice ice-cubes...

Yeah -
1) juice them, add vinegar mother and let it ferment into pomegranate vinegar.
2) juice them and make pomegranate caramels following an apple cider caramel recipe.

We did two jars, both with a very, very simple pickling liquid poured directly into a ball jar filled with the arils. One we stuck in the fridge and the other we canned properly. I haven't opened the canned one yet, so I don't know how well the arils held up to the heat of canning, but the refrigerator ones were delightful after about 4 days. They're an excellent addition to a salad, or added to a gremolata.

Pomegranates here in the Midwest were like $4 EACH for Rosh Hashanah. I am jealous of your bounty!
