Basically bullet-proof, builds up easy, not a heavyweight, and relatively inexpensive. Just good workhorse rims. I've got a set that I built over 20 year ago that's seeing plenty of road miles still. I think I've only had to true them up once.

I'm sending a set of hubs to RT for a new wheelset. Silver Record hubs 32H. I asked about DT 585's but he recommended SL23's since they are lighter but still strong. I ride in rolling terrain with very little elevation change. The DT website describes the 585 as flat road rim that is aerodynamic. I don't know if 30mm rims make that much difference in the wind other than being strong. The Pacenti rims are wider but I've never ridden wide rims. All my tires are 25mm so the Pacenti might make them 27mm but they should be fine in any of my bikes. What to do, what to do.

I went back to Hed rims on my rain bike. pacenti sl23 was too hard to change a clincher, especially in cold rain.
That said, I think the sl23 is the business for tubeless applications.

Other than Enve and Velocity can anyone identify if other brands make their rims in the US?

    Bontrager?
    HED?
    ROL?
    DT?

    - Velocity Deep-V (wore out) 28/32. My first hand-made set. Wore out faster than I had hoped, with a need for replacement at 14k miles. Built a second set.
    - Mavic Open pro 32. Nightmare. Impossible to keep true, no matter what. I actually gave them away.
    - Velocity Deep V 28/32. Second set, replacing the above. Meh. Low build quality, disappointing, heavy, very dead feeling.
    - DT R585. Very solid -- like what Deep Vs should have been. A little heavy, but otherwise great. Retired to repurpose hubs (CK R45s) for another set. Still in the basement, barely show any wear from 5000 miles.
    - Ambrosio FCS 28 / CK r45s / CX ray. My favorite set, by far. Best braking surface I've ever felt, virtually no wear after 7,000 miles. Trued once, after derailleur exploded due to debris into the spokes.
    - H+ Son Archetypes 36 3x -- polished, on the fixed gear. Pretty, lively, bullet proof so far
    - H +Son Arhetypes 32 3x with DA and CX-Ray -- Grey hard no, winter wheels, very solid, nice feel, good support for wider tires. Finish not up to par with Ambrosias, but built up well and held together well so far. Look fantastic with gumwall tires on a steel frame.

i'm quite an amateur wheelbuilder, but have built a few very good wheelsets. i'm a big fan of h+son archetypes. nice and straight/round right out of the box, tension and true up with no drama. same with TB14. i built a set of TB14's to 105 hubs that have been through hell and back, multiple d2r2's, and numerous other dirt road adventures with never needing a true. recently built up a set of SL23 Pacenti rims to T11 hubs, and they built up nicely as well, though i havent put a mile on them yet.

RT wheelworks is building me a set with Pacenti SL23's laced up 3X32 with some silver Record hubs I've been hanging on to for 5 years.

^^ and Terry is building me up a set of Ambrosio Excellights laced to White t11s. Old school, yes, but I've yet to see a bad review of those rims.

Just finished a few rides on Ambrosio Montreals 36h with polished Campy hubs. Silver Sapim spokes and nipples for bling. Old school no doubt. They ride really great.

Anyone here ever use these Campagnolo Montreal rims? I have a NOS set..looks like a Neutron front rim with 32 holes. Looks like they were only made for a few years?

Lace them up and ride them. They will be fine. Campy rims of that vintage are high quality and you're not too heavy for those.

You'll lose two pounds by the time 2016 rolls around and silver rims are back in style again.

Finally rode the SL23 wheelset today. Silver Record hubs 32H built up by RT Wheelworks. I've got 25mm Pro4's mounted and running at 100#. They were so smooth and I had forgotten about the original angry bee sound from a Record hub.
