*PLEASE DO NOT PICK UP DESERT REPTILES!* They can urinate in self-defense, releasing all their moisture and then die from dehydration. The last time I saw a Gila Monster - one of two venomous lizards in North America - was after a monsoon outside the outpost of Gila Bend as it moved across the highway. It was at night and you could barely make out the lumbering lizard, amidst the steaming roadway and headlights. By the time I pulled the truck over it was already halfway down a burrow.Last night though was real special! @Tytanium skidded to a stop as this one was sitting in the trail, basking in the setting sun. Seeing one on a bike ride was a real unique moment. It was mid-shed so it was very annoyed but we finally got it to exit the trail and get into a safer zone. With the warm weather Tucson is having, I just hope this beautiful creature didnít come out of its burrow too soon! Please respect our desert friends!
