Raced three weekends in a row. Time for a break. This was last weekend at the Burleigh County Cup ~ 75miles of gravel and doubletrack. This was the last final 'big' climb, about 15 seconds behind the leader. Unfortunately (fortunate for me), he made a wrong turn in the last 5 miles.

    Mile 65ish and fried

Just to get this going again..... Going through stacks of old photographs on photo paper. Here are a couple iPhone pictures of photographs, hand held. Not real digital scanning. Tossing what is irrelevant and keeping most others. I hope to digitize these pics soon.

Anyway. Here are a couple from 31 years ago (1987) in Milwaukee at Superweek. Not quite enough power to get away, nor enough strength of character to do it. Got some free gloves and a free skinsuit from a 'team' in Madison and felt obliged to try to break it up for the most visible rider in this group. He was pretty strong but I should have looked out for nr. 1 here. Anyway..... it's old times and great memories.

Climbing the hills up off the lake front trying to split the group, generally unsuccessfully. Not quite strong enough to get away alone and too afraid of the carnage of a group sprint to participate. Generally finished about 25th or so in races like this, out of the placings but within sight of the winners.

Haven't pinned a number in a long time. Hoping to resume TT racing, after having been forced off my TT bike for two years due to injury.

Good ole days of mass start racing. Doing the IAB on a way to a solo win (my first in six years) during my last year of mass start.

I only became aware of the rich bike racing heritage in Wisconsin, after I moved here. Apparently, Lemond, the Hampstens, and numerous others would spend the summer racing here. Oh, and I guess there's the local boy Eric Heiden

That kit looks familiar. I think three of your teammates used to hang out on the racer's forum on bike forums (aka, the 33). I'm friends with the dude who loves to ride in the IAB (go figure, given the photo above). Probably doesn't surprise you that it's a certain KR Bickel, who also happens to be my coach.

I know Bickel, really good racer and we definitely geeked out on power and position on the bike. Definitely help shape my approach to racing when I had just started. He’s a good guy and an even better hang.

Going way back for this one. "Citizen's race" (before Cat 5) at Lake Sunapee Bike Race, New Hampshire, around 1987. The jersey? Yeah, I used to race for that team. In citizen races...

    Let's see: toeclips-check, downtube friction shifters-check, steel frame-check, Mavic MA40 clinchers-check, Duegi woodsoled shoes-check, Bell helmet-check, Benotto tape-check. Oh, hair-check.
