Nibali for the back to back victory.

Green for Sagan - no surprises. But Cavendish king of the flat sprints.

    Pierre Rolland for the KOM.

Amazing quality for the young rider classification: Quintana, Pinot, Bardet, Kelderman, Yates twins, Barguil.
Add Dumoulin, Kwiatkowski, Sagan, Bouhanni, Matthews, Démare for the stage hunters, that's incredible quality.

I'll take contodor for the win.
Froome and his inhaler .. I just can't get into it.
He is too incomplete as a rider imo.

Well I think Nibali will school Froome just like last year.

I don't see Contador dropping Nibali in the climbs and the italian is just as good tactician, allrounder and plenty capable in the downhills or rain.

I predict one or more of the four faves is out by the end of the first week. I really hate the first week unless there are some hilly, hard stages like there were in England last year. The first week of processional, flat crash stages is too predictable in it's unpredictability, and not always in a good way. Too many stupid crashes and the top 50 riders are separated by about 20 seconds for a week.

    1. Contador
    2. Froome
    3. Nibali

Disclaimer - Froome and Nibali seem to have much stronger teams and the likelihood that Contador finds himself isolated time and time again will be a difficult obstacle even for the great Contador.

The first week this year is the best week. Mostly great stages.

Almost no time trial, a lot of mountain, you must be kidding right?! Anyway even with a favorable route he will never top 5 a Grand Tour he doesn't seem to keen on trying. I heard he was too lazy to give it a go at a 3 weeks Tour or the classics. He's happy with his current abilities.

I pick Tony every year because his cousin took our wedding photos.

    Specialized with the win, again.

Pinarello with the head scratching, again.

Agree entirely on the observation about the respective strengths of the teams. Sky (assuming Froome makes it through the first week without losing significant time or being banged up in a crash) and Astana are head and shoulders above Saxo. For all the coin that must be being spent on Contador and Sagan, Saxo does not have the same depth as the other two teams. And four riders from Saxo (including Contador) rode in the Giro.

If the favourites gets through the first week without losing significant time to one another and avoid scrapes, bruises and other injuries, Froome will win as the first mountain stage looks like it will be a drag race to the top. Sky are wonderful at setting a high tempo and providing Froome with a platform to blast off. And once Sky have the lead, Froome will be hard to dislodge (to the irritation of all of those people, myself included, who hate the sterilised looking at a power meter type racing this entails).

But, if the first week turns into a street fight and Froome is neutralised to a certain extent, then Contador and Nibali will rise to the top as they are both instinctive racers and will find ways and means of taking time.

Finally, assuming a mix of the first two scenarios, if it becomes a war of attrition in the third week, then maybe Quintana will win. He probably does not have the top end speed to handle a fresh Sky and Froome on the first mountain stage, but come the third week his natural abilities may be too much for the others.

    Hedging my bets? Yep!

The other thing that is likely to happen if history is any guide, is one of the top four candidates will not make it through the first week on account of a crash or similar mis-fortune.

It will be interesting if Astana take the same approach at the Tour as they did the first week of the Giro.
I haven't had a chance to compare the Tour stage profiles, but at the Giro, Astana was very aggressive and
Sky seemed to be put on the back foot. Different riders at the Tour, but by the second week Sky folded like a
    cheap suit.

Given the lack of TT distance, i think the climbing is going to be super aggressive, the favorites know that
time can only be gained in a few places (although it can be lost anywhere). I'm looking forward to seeing
where Quintana is in his development. Theoretically he's the only top contender capable of showing us
something new. The other questions would be; which Nibali shows up, how much does AC have in the tank,
and can Froome stay on his bike?

I'm still not convinced that Nibali is in the same class as Contador and Froome. Hopefully we will see this year if his win last year was due to the attrition of the better riders or if he is actually able to ride with them over three weeks.

I think there will be big crashes in the first week that will change everyone's list, which will result in Thibaut Pinot winning the Tour de France.
