Am I seeing things or does it look like Greipel has bars that are at least one size narrower than everyone else? Especially for nearly the biggest guy in the field. I guess it makes it easier to fit through smaller holes?

That could have been much worse... Nibali, TJ & Quintana were in that pile and Froome barely avoided it.

He is using the Deda super-wide diameter 38s. I could literally stand on one end of those bars and I don't think they'd flex.
Pity that narrow bars make you lose so much power and aren't tenable for road riding.

Who else saw that, it looked to me like Martin was looking for contact and caused his own crash. He was veering/leaning/reaching to shoulder block a Giant rider at any cost and paid his collarbone and the yellow jersey for it.

I noticed it live and every replay since. I like TM but it looked like he was riding dirty, anyone see it differently?

Don't know what you are watching...he overlapped wheels with a Eurocar rider in front of him and his lean right was an attempt to stay up.

Tony Martin and Vincenzo Nibali go down in final km crash, Stage 6 (2015/tour-de-france)
Looks to me like he was trying not to cross wheels with the Europcar rider in front of him and leaned a bit too hard or something, came swinging across and went down hard.

I don't think it was dirty riding. It was up a pretty good gradient and I think he just allowed his front wheel to get overlapped by the rider ahead of him. Sad really because he clearly loved being in yellow. I hope he'll be able to continue but it sure looks like a broken collarbone injury. His crash looked eerily similar to mine from a few years ago. Landed heavily on the shoulder. Not good. I'd be very surprised to see him line up tomorrow.

Me for one, I don't see that at all- just trying to stay up. He overlapped the Europcar rider when the other guy got out of the saddle (that little lurch back,), Martin tried to save it, didn't make it.

In other news, there's *lots* of leaning on other riders to stay up - happens all the time - it's not dirty, no one wants to fall down, if someone leaning on me keeps a crash from happening 3 inches from me I'm VERY okay with the lean.

Tony just needs a CX bike for the off season.

I didn't pay attention to the Europcar rider because he didn't change his course but maybe there was a little swerve but it didn't look like TM was that close to his wheel but obviously difficult to tell from the tv angle. All I saw was how he double pumped, shoulder checking the Giant rider to his right which is why I thought it looked deliberate but that's why I asked for I didn't notice the Europcar rider because he stayed out of the saddle and didn't change his position to make Martin react but upon closer inspection maybe he did.

Since rear wheel is fixed and trailing it's much easier to get clipped (happened to me a couple times and I barely noticed) and stay upright than it is to be the clipper.

I watched it a few times on my DVR, really looked to me like he was trying to lean in to another rider way too hard.

I really think he caused it.

My read is his front wheel was being pushed to his left by the Europcar rider's rear wheel, and he was trying (too) hard to pull it back to the right. Once it came free he was way off balance--kersplat.

    In other news, SCHTEEEEEE-barrrrrrrr.

Europcar goes left enough to touch a wheel. Probably not enough to take Martin down, but enough to make Martin think he needs to act hard against it.
