Default What dropper post on 2009 Niner SIR 9??

Hello all, I have a 2009 SIR 9 and need a dropper post because (as seen below) the current seatpost is somewhat of a taint-tickler. I have read that a 30.9 mm dropper post would work, and still provide enough travel for these short short seat tubes. Can anyone shed some light? Looking at the PNW Cascade 170 mm travel. Pic for reference. Thanks!

I think the OneUp dropper post v2 is one with the smallest stack height and length per travel. It also has good reviews.

Yeah, that's a lot of exposed post. I'd start by measuring how much of your current post is exposed and comparing that to total length minus the minimal insertion length of the PNW cascade or whatever other droppers you're interested in.

I'm not super familiar with your frame. Does it have provisions for internal dropper cable routing or do you need an external post? External is going to limit your options quite a bit unless you drill your frame.

FWIW, I have a PNW Pine. It's similar to the Cascade except it's a 27.2 mm post. Works great and super reliable.

How you gonna stick a 30.9 dropper into a 27.2mm tube?

The longest travel external routed 27.2 post is what you need.

I've been using a 27.2 external PNW dropper for two years, I don't even think about it.

that's the post I have. it's a tad bit heavy but it has zero servicing requirements.

one thing worth stressing again is that the OP really needs to take a measurement of his current position. It's tough to tell from the photos, but if that's a 410mm setback Thomson the minimum insertion puts it at 335 mm of exposed post. max seat height for the Pine will be 275 mm.

Yes, will hopefully get measurements tomorrow, frame is size size large I believe, but not sure the best way to measure since the seat tubes on these are short anyways...

Measure it using a tape measure?

Itís highly unlikely you will find a dropper that will work for you on that bike. Probably can find a 27.2 hite rite somewhere though!

That being said, traditional geometry like that really doesnít benefit from a dropper post as much as modern geo with steeper seat angles and longer top tubes. I donít miss droppers at all when i ride old bikes. They were designed to be ridden with the seat at full height, with a slight bend in the knees and a flat back.
The front center kn your bike is so short you NEED to get back behind the saddle anyway to save your dermis.

tape measure from the top of the seatpost clamp to the saddle rails. you want the tape to follow the straight portion of the post.
