That's a pretty succinct explanation of what's wrong with us.

Well, my opinion is at least equal to the worst of others but I did just explore green and blue trails for 2.5 hours on a Giant Trance. I know itís the Honda Accord of full suspension bikes but I ride a lot like you describe, Caleb, and I found plenty to like. Giant just introduced the Trance X with adjustable geo and room for 2.5 tires. One of those with a bar swap for a little more sweep would be just fine by me.

I talked to my local Ibis dealer yesterday, and they said to get on the list and maybe I'd get one by the end of the summer.

I went through getting a new mtb last year, and getting bikes for my boys. I have to agree with poster above that the giant FS bikes are very nice for the money.
I always go with demo bikes on sale. I briefly had a carbon RIPMO--got it at a great demo sale price, but it was too much bike (160 travel, etc) for my local trails and so I sold it this summer.

I liked my previous Ripley, but liked the Evil Following more, and sold them to get a yeti SB4.5 and an Evil Offering demo sale that I like even more. Sold the yeti to get a Revel rascal demo sale--another great bike. Both the Offering and the Rascal are a bit more than I need locally, but perfect for the trips I take to Flagstaff or St George area each year.

From the same shop I got my son a Santa Cruz demo. For my youngest I traded in both boy's outgrown rocky mountain thunderbolts (also previous demo sale purchases) at a shop that did trades, and got him a medium Giant a Trance and it has been great.

The Trance rides above it's pricepoint having ridden all my bikes, and the boys' bikes 3. Caveat, I've not ridden a trek, and , as it is not a brand I like due to how they do business, I probably never will.

Definitely check demo shops in Moab and the various over the edge sports locations if you've liked something you have rented: you might find it at a really good price.
    good luck!
