I have a Bontrager race Lite I built up that is a blast to ride as well as my 93 Slingshot. They are fun projects. Several vintage forums and FB pages devoted to them. Go for it. That said, my 275+ hardtail is my modern go to ride.
Trent Knight, riding since the 83 Coors Classic warped me.

I have one mtb and itís a 26er.

It doesnít really make sense, outside of a nostalgic context, or when I ride with my kids.

Itís possibly the only Rhygin Juke with discs in the world.

I consider a drop bar conversion at least once a year.

The fat tires almost make it relevant in some way. Almost.

It was an impulse craigslist score, and I love it...

OK, that one doesn't count! Very cool, plus it's rigid AND disc. I for one found my first MTB, a very aggressive xc 26er, an over-the-bars catapult, and despite sticking to bikes with road bike angles, going over the bars evaporated for me when I went to 29. But if a bike didn't feel like that, I could see its benefit on the tightest, twistiest singletrack. TTX1, amazing drop bar gravel bike you would have there, but you should try some of the new Vittoria graphene MTB tires on that first - they make them in 26!

I just might take this advice, as the Schwalbe tires are 10 years old. Literally, been on the bike 10 years. The pic is probably 5-6 years old.

To bring it back to the OP's agenda, 26x2.35 is pretty close to some 27.5 sizes in OD... The point is: There are some cool uses for 26ers depending on your agenda.

Cruiser, rat rod, drop bar gravel bike, wall hanger... If the frame can fit fit tires, there are plenty of arguments to be made for 26ers. @Nierman's bike comes to mind...

And there's nothing wrong with skinny 26" rims, either.
