I am curious about sweep on flat MTB bars. I *think* that I would prefer the axis of my wrists to be closer to parallel to the direction of the bike than they are now. I could be wrong.

It is worth trying with inexpensive bars. This is one of those fit issues that will be individualistic. Personally, I find keeping my elbows in the right place makes a bigger difference on my wrists than back sweep. I have 2 bikes with backswept bars but my main mtn bike has normal bars. I change between them without really noticing.

I'm guessing my preference for sweep is at least partly based in my years on road bikes. I took a long break from flat bars, and I'm now used to turning my thumbs further into the line of travel than a very flat bar allows.

+1 on the SQ Labs bars. I run the 16* sweep on my XC type bike and love it. They solved my hand/fingers numbness issues. Interestingly, when I'm riding more gravity type bikes, I don't need the sweep. Probaby because the riding is more dynamic with elbows out.

Good info here from SQ Labs on the ergonomics of the sweep.
