    Yeah, during the school years from '88 to '90 I was living in a series of decaying little houses in Olympia WA, 6 of us chipping in on $350.00/month rent. I had a '60 Buick and then after a drunk rear-ended that I got a '66 Chrysler Newport convertible with no top. One of my housemates had a QBP account. And we rode all the time. I was never really fast but man I loved the lifestyle.

    Most of my teenage years were focused around racing BMX. I always couldn’t wait to see what my new number would be at the beginning of every season. You would keep track of your points and have a general idea of where you were, but you never really knew until it officially came from the sanctioning body. In 1987 I was ranked #21 in my class. It was fun to get a new numberplate and sticker it up!

    I still have my Profile Champ Pro from back then and it is pretty much an unchanged survivor. Here is my #21s on a Zeronine Moto Control plate. The “S” (that I styled like the Suzuki Logo) stood for Syracuse district.

    Great photos and stories.

    I collect pre-96 mountain bikes. Here are a few of them;

    Has anyone else kept their old race plates?

    Looking for something else this weekend and I came across plates from the first Grundig World Cup at Mte Ste Anne, the 2nd or 3rd edition of Iceman Cometh as well as more than a few local race events. Unfortunately I could not find what I was looking for.

    I similarly have a significant t-shirt collection from this era as well.

    She IS the best.

    Man, we rode 1000's and 1000's of miles together, she's pure class.

    You must have known her parents and the cafe too, I reckon, as well as the story behind her name.

    The first two were taken in Anchorage.
    I believe that is an Ibis BowTie? It was still in use at the local race.
    The other was one of the first fat bikes on display at one of the LBSs.

    Oh, I love this. Great shots from Shanty Creek. Only pro I ever saw race Up North was Tinker at Iceman.

    In ‘95, I took a month long road trip. First stop was Bell’s Brewery, where I loaded up. That beer proved to be quite valuable for trading across the country. Along the trip, I spent 5 days with a buddy in Durango, which culminated with the Iron Horse. Here’s a few photos I found:

    I saw one in my parents garage recently - to be fair, I made it and it wasn't mine - it was John Tomac's! Graced my mountain back for a while in the early 90s.
    It's not the years, honey. It's the mileage.
