Default Why do easy sessions knock me right out?

If I don't feel time constrained I do easy days. No pressure on the pedals ever, I'd say how many watts/kg but you guys would just laugh and laugh but suffice it to say those days are a half to two thirds of a brisk effort and way way below a day where I make it hurt. The thing that baffles me is that for such an easy day only marginally longer in time than a brisk or hard effort the only thing I want to do is go take a nap afterward. A hard day, I have no such reaction. You'd think that it'd be the other way around.

It's called a rest and recovery day man. You need the nap, relax.

On easy days, you likely accumulate less lactic acid, don't engage your sympathetic nervous systems intensely, and release less epinephrine, norepinephrine and cortisol. Hard days mimic manic activity in terms of neurotransmitter activation. It's similar to when insomnia creates subsequent insomnia, but as soon as you finally get rest, your parasympathetic nervous system kicks in, and sleep resets. This happens for all of us. The slowest day in the pro peloton in a stage race is the day after a rest day. Take the nap as TT said.

Besides the fact that active recovery is good, it also improves your fat burning efficiency.
