Default New Concept 2 at the gym: advice on getting started

Title says it; new rower showed up on the gym floor. Interestingly, near the weight racks rather than on the cardio balcony so I assume the Cross Fit types had a role in that.

Lots of experienced rowers here; how should a newbie start and integrate that into training for the bike?

Indoor rowing is terrific crosstraining anytime of the year. Key to this is to have excellent form from the get go. Generally speaking the gym rats muscle it with their arms and do not use good form...just saying.

Here is a good video to get you started: Oarsome Foursome Fitness (Video 24) - IMDb

If you can, find someone who rows on the water to coach you a couple times and you'll get it.

    --- erg'n is the best..
find a concept 2 location & go for it..
-- remember., rowing/erg'n is 70% legs --- then back from the hips..
you just hang on the oars or handle like a "ape" -- be so great if our thumbs on even plain like our other 4 fingers..
not a arm/shoulder power exercise/motion.. very hard.., with some.., male power-mind set-from paddling a canoe or rowing a boat..

-- ever this way.., put you in a sweep or scull (multi or single) --- might just think "trice" relative to 2 wheels.., when rowing opportunity presents itself..

I worked out on a Concept rower on 4 month deployment. About 40 minutes a day along with some pushups and situps. I had the best core strength of my life after that deployment. I've thought about getting one for my man-cave.
    I heart burnt bikes.
