Default Shimano Road Hydro Compatibility Chart

I posted this in another thread, but figured it was worth a thread since the question comes up so often. The question of "can I use XXX lever with YYY caliper and which hose should I use?" is answered here.

Would ST-R8020 be compatible with BR-M8000 (XT) calipers? I hope so, cause that's what I have ordered.

I've been wanting to get a set of hydraulic Dura Ace shifters for my gravel bike (have the 785 ones now). I've been flip flopping between sticking with the flat mount Dura Ace calipers or going with one of the XTR M9000 calipers. I assume if the XT version works the XTR will as well.

Any thoughts on the pro and cons of going one way or the other?

Personally, I would go with M9020 calipers because they are designed for servo-wave and the M9000 calipers are not. But there have been plenty of people who have used the M9000 and are very happy with them.

Good to know, thanks. And you'd take the M9020 over the Dura Ace flat mounts?

Why wouldn’t you use the Dura Ace?

If the frame is flat mount, definitely Dura Ace or Ultegra.

It's post mount and to use 160mm rotors I'd need adapters for either type of caliper. It doesn't sounds like there's an real performance or weight difference between the M9020 or the Dura Ace flat mount.

Oh, there is no adapter to allow you to use a flat mount caliper on a post mount frame. You will need to go post mount.

Just to follow up: I now have 9170 shifters working perfectly with the M9020 calipers. I got two sets of SM-BH90-SBM hose to have the proper ends but everything seems to work perfectly.

    Thanks for the help.
