Default Shimano 5800 shift lever ferrule

The 5800 shift levers come with a customized ferrule that fits into a slot under the hoods for the derailleur housing. I'd like to use Velo Orange stainless steel braided shift housing - These don't fit nicely into the custom ferrule supplied with the shift levers. I started to lightly file down the VO shift cable housing and didn't go that far. I think if I tapered the filing enough I could get the VO housing to fit the 5800 customized ferrule without taking too much off of the outer cable housing shell, but I may be wrong. I know this is not an ideal approach, but could this work? Any thoughts, methods or experience with this would be greatly appreciated.

    Best,

    Jason

i thk its a bad idea.
the filed down housing will become joined to the ferrule over time. stainless or not.
    regular housing works best imo.

Those ferrules do for sure help to align the cable entry into the housing and prevent the shifters from shredding cables, like the 11spd shimano stuff loves to do so much. I haven't installed new 5800 shifters in ages, so I'm not sure if it comes with sp41 housing, but if it does, there is no housing that will make your shifting work better than that, hands down.
