Default New Open Pro Carbon - Mavic UST

I will post this here too because i didnt know these existed until i just got my hands on a set. Initial impressions are these look very good, and I have been impressed with Mavic UST recent offerings. Will report back with further impressions, but suffice to say I am happy there are some new interesting rim brake options out there for after market rim sales. Who knows how available these are but i'm liking what i'm seeing here.

    Anyone else rolling these?

    Mavic Open Pro Carbon UST.

Are these wheels you built or did you buy them already complete?

    They look a little Corima-esque.

    Damn. Those are nice looking.
My incoming bike will have DT Swiss 1400 otherwise I’d take a hard look at those.

Light stiff rim, lots of spokes for lateral stiffness, classic gray rim, silver hubs, sweet!

I’ve built a few of those. They’re nice. Like, classic-Mavic-aluminum-nice...only carbon.

I've got a set of comete ust and love them, as I do my best ksyriums. With a set of schwalbe pro ones they are just great to ride.

They probably ride great but I found the weight/aero ratio a bit deceiving, especially at such a price. I guess that is the "price" to pay for being UST and not tubeless ready.

Don't run them at low-ish pressures on rough roads or where drains/tracks are to be found...

Appears to be the same carbon weave as used in the Nimble Fly and Crosswind wheels from the 90's.

Carbon doesn't dent. It either cracks, or not.

Dustin's right. It's one of the things CFRP doesn't do.

Angry, how's the braking performance? What kind of brake pads are you using?

The outer "finishing layer" doesn't really give a lot of information on what is in the lower layers.

Sorry for not reporting back yet - these are now likely destined to be used in the spring.

one poster across the hall who is in the industry did confirm Mavic subs the production of these out to Corima, hence the look. seems odd that a company like mavic would do that, but also appears accurate.

That's really interesting. Almost increases confidence? I've always had the impression that Corima had very good quality control. Could be wrong though.

So, I have a set of the Ksyrium Pro Carbon tubulars, which are very nice, and was considering a set of these as a companion for days where larger diameter tubeless tires might be a better choice.

They look like the same rim profile as the rest of the Pro Carbon clinchers, just different drillings, and pretty naked without any decals.
