Angry, have you been riding these? Any opinions on braking ability (in the dry) versus say an aluminum Open Pro?

I can comment on my experience with the Kysrium Pros - which are the same rim. They blow alloy rims away. They devour pads, but the braking is so superior, that I don't care.

I just ordered the last set of 28H hoops Excel had in stock. Gonna get them laced to some NOS Record 9/10 silver hubs with CX-Rays or Aerolites. Any recommendations on pads?

Mavic doesn't seem to specify a pad, and the several places I've seen them for sale, I've just seen "carbon brake pads". Campagnolo red pads are very good, so I wonder if that meets the not-very-specific spec.

Yes, the Campag red is very good. Also might be of interest that they offer them in the Shimano/Sram version.

Another one that is very good is Reynolds Cryo Blue POWER. I think they are better than Campag.

The factory system wheels (Ksyrium or Cosmic Carbon) ship with Mavic yellow pads, so the swiss stop yellows are probably a safe choice.

Any reason to prefer the yellow Swiss Stops over Black Prince?

I think I've heard/read somewhere that the black are too abrasive for some rims, though I don't actually know that as a fact. I don't really brake enough to ever wear through pads and most of my carbon wheels now are Campy/Fulcrum using their red pads, so I've never tried the Black Prince pads.

The last winter before going full disc I killed the brake track up to delamination of a set of chinese rims. I was using black prince pads. Not sure if that was the pads fault, road salt, general bad rim quality. More likely a combination of all 3 associated to an high mileage.

Those aren't what came with my mavics. They were a normal grey black colour. The yellow ones make for yellow brake tracks.
