Default Hollowgram crank in bb86 frame?

I picked up an older Fuji Altamira 1.0 bike that has a bb86 bb and want to know if it is possible to use a BB30A Hollowgram crankset with it.

My understanding is that I can put in a bb386 EVO BB which accepts a 30mm spindle. I am aware that BB30A is designed for a 73mm shell width and that BB86 shells are 86mm wide. BB30A has room for the spacers and wave washer. I'm wondering, can the hollowgram crank be made to fit with correct chainline by omitting them? Yes this is hacky but I am a skilled mechanic so would like to try and make this work even if it i a bit of a pain...anyone ever done this?

off the top of my head hollowgram uses 2x 2mm dust shields, 2.5mm DS spacer, 2mm NDS spacer, wavey washer and up to 1.5mm in thin spacers (0.5mm each)

that's 9.5mm which isn't enough to get you there. I'd look into a different spindle. Both crank arms are removable, so there should be something out there that will work

longer spindle won't work because it will throw off the chainline and q factor.

you are right that there's not enough spindle even without the extra spacers. looking at the aluminum BB insert, it seems like there is plenty of material there to enlarge the bore from 41 to 42mm and narrow the shell by machining it down where it extends beyond the frame. The question in my mind is whether the heat from machining would cause the shell to debond from the frame.

WheelsMFG has a conversion bearing for BB86 -> BB30 spindle, but spindle must be longer than 104mm to work with the BB86 shell. Cannondale Experts carries a 109mm Hollowgram spindle but it is out of stock. Not sure if that helps any. WheelsMFG sells the bearing individually for almost $70/each and the spindle would be $55 without spacers, so total price is in the neighborhood of $200.

Edit: Ah, I see that they also make the conversion bearing as a full kit.
