BTW.. some guys in the past(Merckx) wrapped from center to end of hbar. I did it sometimes.. The beauty of it is NO eelctrical tape, no glue residue anywhere on the handlebar. The ugly side of it is when your hands are on top of the bar closer to the hoods, you will rub against the layers of tape. When taped from end to center, the rubbing won't happen.

Guess why, in those days no cable would run under the bar tape

I do like, and I do enforce "traditional" wrapping of the tape on vintage bikes, especially with those brake levers where you cannot turn back the rubber hood (either too thick, or perished and it will crack!), so you gotta show some style and do it the right way!

I have been running the black on black NFS tape for about a month and it is great! I think I have a new favorite. I was using ESI RCT silcone tape which wrapped nice and thick but I find it wears too quickly. I would get through it at the hoods, as in the tape would wear away completely and I would be grabbing the bare bar, in about two months of use. I have never had another tape wear so heavily.

    NFS is the stuff!

the zipp service course cx bar tape is my current favorite. really nice stuff and wraps really well. In the spring i need to do some re-wrapping though and i'll give the NFS stuff a shot, bar tape is easy to experiment with!

I think you'll like the NFS tape if you like the Zipp tape. I really like the non "cx" zipp service course tape, but the shop just put the "cx" version on a bike I had in for some work. It's ok, but I much prefer the NFS and the other Zipp. More grip and more cush.

Update. I did a long ride on the Gaulzetti with this Zipp CX tape today. I don't wear gloves unless I'm racing, so that was 5 1/2 hours barehanded on the Zipp stuff. As soon as I get some more NFS tape it's replacing the Zipp tape. My hands are chewed up.

Not a fan of the Zipp "CX" stuff. I do like the Zipp Service Course regular smooth stuff though- however, I recently had to re-wrap my bars and it took me an hour to get the adhesive and residue and bullshit left over from the Zipp tape. I will not be using that again.

I wrapped it now in the Pro Silicone per Strongin recommendation and even though I just gripped and played around after wrapping- so far it feels awesome. And it seems you can peel it off and re wrap, not a one and done sticking with the adhesive backing. It's more like a silicone strip that would be found on bib shorts. This appeals to my neurotic need to get each side perfectly symmetrical, and the finsihing tape is 7mm from the edge of the stem faceplate on both sides. Top notch.

Now to get out and ride it.

It's symmetrical and has the same number of turns on both sides.

I'm a big fan of the NFS tape. Grippy without being sticky or anything weird.

I've got another bike to build in the next week or two. I can't decide if I should order some NFS tape or wrap with the Arundel Gecko tape (2nd fave) I have on hand.

I'm biased but even if I wasn't shillin' for NFS I'd still use it with Cinelli Cork a near distant second.

FWIIW I sell out every batch of NFS tape I get and will have 1/2 a case at The Philly Bike Expo than it's goose eggs until the next batch sometime around January. #PBE2016

No comparison IMO. I have the Arundel tape on a bike and I'm looking forward to replacing it.

Can someone please identify the tape on the nearest Speedvagen?

It is, imo, aesthetically pleasing. Also, whatever it is, I hope it holds up longer than Lizard Skins DSP.

I've been using NFS and will continue too. Its got enough tackiness when wet for me, but not too sticky. Also a pleasure to wrap. I did my girlfriends bars nice and tight, and thin, and mine thicker, pretty cool feature.

I wrapped a friends bike with some stuff from fabric that felt really awesome too, but I cant bring myself to spend 45 bucks on bar tape anymore. The Zipp Service course stuff is good, but doesn't seem to be super durable, but goes for around 20 bucks, probably similar to Lizard Skins stuff but cheaper.

I put the Fabric tape on the CX bike and really, really like it. I'm saving the NFS tape for an incoming Zank Road. Although on the pricier side of things... I'd highly recommend the Fabric stuff.

I have wrapped my stable with three different brands of tape, all good:

Trek has the Zipp service course tape. Light, good grip not too obnoxious, black has held up great for 4K miles. Great with bare hands.
CAAD has Fabric tape. A little thicker, nice feel, but green starting to look dirty, should have bought black. Great with bare hands, also. Best of the three IMHO over the Zipp by a hair despite discoloration.
CAADX has Supacaz tape. Thick, more vinyl/pleather feel, bright as the sun orange looks and has held up well on cross bike. Worried about feel if wet, but have had good luck weather wise so far and wear gloves more often with cross than road.

I did not wrap the Zipp tape, but the Fabric was waaay easier to wrap than the Supacaz tape. Looking forward to trying NFS tape when these go bad.

Tressostar for 3,000 miles has been fun.
    IMG_1442.jpg
So I used some to show off my new stem.
    IMG_1443.jpg
While Tressostar is plenty long for 38mm bars, I think I'll use Newbaums for my 42s next time.
