Thanks though, I do like a bit of cushioning so I think Iíll look into something that just matches the color rather than leather.

For about three weeks...then it will look like you've got a nice saddle and dirty white tape you haven't got around to re-doing yet!

Just replaced some worn out Lizard Skins with Fabric Knurl tape. I like it. Looks good. Feels good. Comes with finishing tape that is actually better than electrical tape and decent bar plugs. And it has a silicone sticky strip, rather than a shitty strip of adhesive that is always a pain in the arse when you take tape off!

No idea on durability yet, but it canít be worse than Lizard Skins.

I used to be an Arundel Rubber Gecko guy. Not any more.

Yeah, I always look for a silicon strip instead of adhesive - easier to fit and much easier to replace.

I just bought a roll of 3M electrical tape which is meant to be great for finishing - Iíve been using the cheap local diy store type and itís not great. I was told that this has more stretch and better adhesive.

    Iíll let you know.

Going back to Fizik 2mm tape. More than enough chunk, maybe too much.

Had some Bontrager tape, promo that came free with renewal of Peloton magazine, sitting around for a couple of years.. Overhauled the 'C' bike today - 2001 Litespeed Tuscany that serves as rain/beach bike. Not familiar with this tape before, but a nice cushy texture and would be excellent for cross. Seems to have a significant rubber component. This particular roll has the word 'Peloton' on it repetitively. Doesn't look bad but hoping no one thinks I'm a Peloton (suburbanoid spin bike) douche. I now understand what social justice warriors mean by 'cultural appropriation'.

I found myself increasingly drawn to the gold tape Rich used on his Lyrebird. Then I found myself working two doors down from a shop i could pick it up from for a couple of days. I caved to the shallower tendencies.

Iím from the school where bar tape can be any colour as long as itís black. I mean in theory it can be white, but who has time to keep that clean?

Installed it just now. Wow, other than the colour it has no redeeming features. Weíll see how that goes.

    It does look good though...

OK, first proper ride of this today (I've been waiting for a tyre fix and riding something else in the meantime).

This tape is awful. Supacaz Bling Silicone, if anyone is curious. It's WAY more slippery than the Fabric silicone tape it replaced.

But, I think I'll keep it, in a classic form over function choice. I've been thinking in the last couple of days that gum hoods and silver lever blades would go nicely...

I’m surprised. I thought it would be awful but actually quite like it - which I cannot say of other Supacaz tapes I’ve tried.

Do the gym hoods and silver brake levers - especially if you never want that Sydney Lyrebird ride to happen...

OK, I'm curious. What is it that you like? Me, I like the colour. Nothing else.

Well, I had purple Supacaz tape before that was truly *awful*. I've since had the bling blue and the gold; and they're nowhere near as awful.

Combine that with suitable colour-matching and they sit in the 'not great but perfectly acceptable' category (i.e. not so much 'like' as 'tolerate').

Another ride today - it's still awful. Maybe no worse than just wrapping your bars in electrical tape. I think I'll tolerate it, but I won't cry when it wears out. And Rich can relax, I won't be over-capitalising it by changing the brakes at all.

    So out of the tapes I've got/had;

Supacaz Bling - awful, but a nice colour
Arundel Rubber Gecko - nice but wore out quite quickly
Fabric Knurl - not a lot wrong with this, but durability to be determined - it's cheap though! A go to cheap wrap for me
Fabric Silicone - I don't mind this, but I wouldn't buy it again.
Arundel Silicone - Expensive, and didn't knock my socks off initially. But, it's grown on me since. Wears like steel, tacky - rain or dry, shock absorbing. This is the one I'll be buying when the Supacaz dies. I'll need to come up with another idea for gold.

Don’t forget brown looks good on the Lyrebirds - Fizik, Brooks Leather, Brooks Cambium, Deda, Selle Italia ‘Smoo’... One of the newer Fizik tapes comes in a beige colour that might tone in with the gold too.

You’ve also got that red on the stem & forks on yours, but that’s quite rich so might be tricky to match.
