    Default 11s campy shifter Q

My left Record shifter on the Spectrum seems worn off, it goes with no pb from small to large but when going from large to small with the thumb shifters I cannot feel the clicks except some time the last one, after trying a few times it finally shifts. Are the internal dead or it just needs some new cables etc ? Shifter is old with plenty of miles about 8 years or so.

    Thanks

Cable fraying at the head of the cable (at the cast aluminum "stopper")? When the cable starts to wear out, the Campy ratchet mech will act like it has lost teeth and is missing clicks, sticking and not down shifting into lower gears. It usually happens with wear (of course) but can also happen if the cable was kinked near the head during install, weakening the strands. Turns into a small rat's nest of strands that screw up the free movement of the cable and can get snarled in the ratchet mech.

Hum, could very well be that then. Can't remember when cables were changed on this bike.

Pull the hood back and pull the cable. You’ll know immediately if the clicks return. I’ve also seen frayed cables cause trouble in Campagnolo levers (as well as Shimano, though thankfully not my own).

I had something similar and when I took the shifter off, the bolt at the rear of the shifter was loose. It's the L Central pivot fixing bolt which you can see here: Ergo Shifter Rebuild (Campagnolo) | cyclecycle.info

It's Campagnolo so wear would be the most unlikely cause of the shifting problems ;)

I understand. Mine is also 11 speed (Chorus). Not like the one pictured but with a similar screw at the back which was the cause of the shifting problem.

Is not a bad idea to flush off the dust/grit and apply light lubrication.
The back bolt (either 2.5 hex ot T15, IIRC) can come loose but it's easily sorted with a dab of 222/223 grade Loctite and tighten enough.

Sorry to hijack this thread. What do you recommend for lubrication? I've got some shifters that are due for new cables and hoods, so I might as well lubricate them too.

Pulled the cable and it looks fine. without cable in the behavior is the same. It looks like I may have finally worn out some components

If I may: what year is your shifter, and does it have defined indexed positions (big ring/little ring) or a series of smaller "infinite" adjustments like the early 9 speed stuff?

Not sure what year something like 2013.

It is at the bike shop now. Dropping it at the bike shop was actually harder than I thought, called Uber as my car cannot be used for transporting bike. Go to Palo Alto bikes to be told that I cannot drop off the bike there because they have no space to hold it... WTF ? Called another Uber to get to another bike shop in Los Altos. The mechanic seemed sort of up to date on Campy. We will see.

    Uber Schmuber.

Sounds like a pretty good reason to get bike transportation vehicle and I think I have the solution to your problem.
