Default Officially Serious (Gravel) Bicycle Ride - Marin County, CA, Jan 21

Hey y'all, we (Above Category) are putting on a casual little dirt ride out of our studio in Sausalito on January 21. 55ish miles, 8500ish vertical, but there's plenty of bailouts, and plenty of beer. Climbs Tam a couple times.

Poster is below...and here's a link with details: The Officially Serious Bicycle Ride |

Hope to see some Salonistas out there!

What? you are going through the tunnel and not up Coastal trail to the around-about on Cozelman Rd. Really wimping out on the end :). This is a really great route. Like really cool. Hope to get out and do it.

Hello. Now that’s just mean. I am going to start negotiating on with the home front. I have already selected the most optimal bailout to the Gestalt Haus.

I'd almost consider a flight out there just to see that.

How challenging technically would this be for someone who's riding is 99% pavement, and only has a cross bike that can fit 32's?

Some of the descents are steep, but there's nothing that's too bad if you keep speed in check. The climb up Pine Mountain is a steep, techy bitch through a rockgarden, I expect a lot of folks to be walking it. Save the descent of Rock Springs off of the summit and the Oat Hill/Old Vee descent, I could do this route on a road bike in the dry.

Ahahaha. I built the route with about twenty-six bailouts as to lessen the load.

I did recon of this loop today. The name is apt.
It will be challenging even for advanced level riders- even more so if it rains between now and Sunday.
The muddiest spot was Bullfrog- "Bullfrog" will morph into "Mudbog" with some additional rain.

This looks great, I'm going to try and join if my schedule (and legs) are cooperative.

Is it possible to glom onto the group when they come through Mill Valley? Or do you want everyone to come to Sausilito?

Rain looks like it's holding off.

I didn't ride on the proposed course today- But it was pretty greasy on Jewel and the part of Bolinas Ridge that I rode- There will be a good amount of mud and/or puddles on Sunday no matter what- Maybe not on Dias, Coyote, Or Railroad. Lots of mud on Rock springs, Rocky Ridge, Pine Mtn., Oat Hill and Old Vee.

I road most of the other half of the router on Tuesday. RRG is RRG. Coastal view was ok, most notably a couple of water bars which force you on the inside where you want to go on the outside. Plus that second half (after the picnic tables) is just rough. Coyote was a little slippery. I found myself searching for grip on a couple of corners. I will probably ride rock bridge tomorrow via laruel dell tomorrow. That should be slushy.

It did! We got lucky there.

Lots to learn, super-stoked and grateful for everyone that turned out (Start headcount: 130).

    THERE WILL BE MORE.
