    Default MTB Content: 2013 SM100

Figured I'd put the miles I have this year to some good use and signed up for the Shenandoah 100 in Sept. Anyone else?

    Bueller? Bueller?

Yeah, I'm in. It's going to eat me alive and spit me out, but I'm in.

A slew of reasons why this is my favorite NUE race (also seems like the hardest to me).
    Flabongo's
Pizza at the top, that really isn't the top
    Dowell's Draft
    pre race festivities
    POST race festitivies
    The stars/sky
    ...

It's not in the cards for me this yr, though some of my teammates are heading down. Already looking forward to next yr.

I think I'd really need a light 29'r for this beast. No bueno on 28's?

Definitely a MTB course. IIRC you have an Engin that would work lovely.

Shoogs, I don't really want to hear that this is the hardest one. Though you're not the first to say that. I'll just gut it out as long as I can, then turn on my lights and try to not get lost. I'm guessing single speed rigid is probably not the smartest idea.

Interesting. I've heard that the Wilderness 101 is harder. Either way, 13,000 ft of climbing is going to be a long day. Also doesn't help that I haven't pre-ridden any of it, but at this point, I probably don't want to see what I'm in for, either.

Nathan - let's try and connect before the race. When are you headed up?

    Josh - do it.

I'm not entirely sure when we are headed up. It's at least me and another couple guys from Nashville. Might be a crew from Chattanooga coming up with representing The North Face too. My guess is coming up Friday and probably camping.

Sounds good. I'll probably roll down early Saturday to get situated since I'm only a couple hours away. Good luck with the final push in your training this week.

Singlespeed rigid is ALWAYS a good idea. It may not seem like it at the time, however.

That was a hard fucking day. Harder than Leadville. The whole time I kept thinking, "never again." Half hour after I'd crossed the line, I'd already decided that I'm going back next year.

OK, a week out and I thought I'd do a roll call for this year's SM100. Shoogs? Anyone else?

    It's gonna hurt.

You bet! I'm so looking forward to it, I've missed those trails!

Such a long season, I'm picturing my fitness slowly drowning while grasping at reeds trying to hold on until the end if the season. Wait, that doesn't make sense...but you probably get the picture.

Let's meet up, when do you plan to arrive?

I plan on getting there by late morning tomorrow. When are you headed in?

I'll probably set camp by the observatory. I have a dark blue Grand Cherokee and a goldenish LL Bean tent. Hope we can meet up.

So sorry I didn't see this until way to late! I met up with Tom chatted chilled and had some beers.

I was a little to shelled to be witty... This time and clearly didn't want to spill my beer.
