Default Bay area: going coastal this week-end

I am heading to CA tomorrow. Who is up for a coastal ride this week-end ? Could be Sat or Sun. Coud be something like Kings-lobitos-san gregorio-pescadero-west alpine. About 120k and 2600m of vertical starting from Portola valley. Got to train a bit for Reno2cino.

    I can do either.

BTW, disc brakes are not allowed at this event.

Epic loop choice Lionel! Used to do this one a few times a year ~25 years and 40 less lbs ago but now limited to posing at Woodside bakery ;) Should be nice temps at the coast with the projected heat in the Bay Area this weekend.

jealous of you guys living out there. I just returned to Ontario after a visit with the wife and baby.

dreaming of how we could make-due living there.

did the loops at fremont older while we were out there on a borrowed mtb, and like that im hooked- but there is nothing like that here to compare to.

And as far as MTB goes Fremont holder is WAY below average for the bay area.

I expect that. It was a compromise since I didn't know what I was getting into, was on borrowed equipment and the host/I wasn't sure how I would do with climbs now that I am out of flat Ontario. It went well but our stay ended and we didn't get a chance to get out again.

Above all, I appreciated the opportunity to get out on a bike instead of going with the girls to do some more shopping.

I am taking an out of town friend over to Marin this weekend. Is Bofax still closed from the landslides?

Not your Euro standard "Oh, we only summited Tourmalet twice today, pish posh, we are so obese" fat guy loop. Like a real fat, American loop. One with donut shops and tractor pulls as the mid-ride diversion.

Just rode the climb with Houston last weekend. Slides are cleaned up but the road was closed to cars as of last weekend.

great loop although I like the reverse - page-west-alpine (or OLH -84)-haskins-pescadero-stage-lobitos-tuitas-kings. I would rather climb tunitas late than west alpine late. plus descending kings is more fun than descending page

there is no hiding on this ride. the best you can do is stall while eaitng in pscadero and stall again for a second ginger cookie in san gregorio

This is fine as well indeed in the reverse direction, you can be in a headwind on 1.

I hear no real takers so far though ?

If you'd rather ride slow up South Gate to the summit from the Berkeley campus, we're rollin' up tunnel at 9:40 from Kroeber Fountain at Bancroft and College on Saturday. Meet at 9:30.

The headwind only comes on the straight section of Stage between Pescadero to the 90d left at the end of the eucalyptus tree section where the machine gun welded man sculpture is.

One day we will meet. I had the strongest year of my life and then a L5/S1 disc issue put me on the couch. The good news is my position has not changed. the bad news is now going up kings and down 84, which is not a big deal, really, makes me feel like I have ridden 2x the elevation. That's ok. This is a solvable situation. Time is on my side....
