    Default 2016 Rose Mountain Rumble : RMR2!

    For Immediate Release:

Presenting, the Rose Mountain Rumble (RMR) : August 27, 2016 : 9AM : Lyndeborough, NH

    For Details and Course Descriptions:

    www.ROSEMOUNTAINRUMBLE.com

Be sure to read the course descriptions! They do not disappoint.

All proceeds of the Rose Mountain Rumble will benefit the Piscataquog Land Conservancy (PLC) which is a private non-profit land conservation organization working to conserve the natural resources and scenic beauty of the Piscataquog, Souhegan and Nashua River valleys of southern New Hampshire. Last year all participants aided in the successful effort to preserve Rose Mountain. We hope to see you and many more of your friends again for the 2016 RMR!

Registration is via the RMR website but you can go direct to Bike Reg where the event's registration is hosted.

The RMR will consist of four options:

100k Course, 50 Mile Course, 40 Mile Course and 20 Mile Beginner / Family loop.

All courses boast well over 70% of beautiful Southern NH's finest dirt roads, gravel roads, and 6th class/jeep roads. This is a great chance to enjoy traffic-free, narrow, twisty, rock wall lined classic New England dirt roads! All courses have scenic overlooks, challenging climbs and fast, technical descents. A good majority of the courses are under tree cover to protect riders from the sun. All courses are marked with cue sheets and GPX files provided. Water stops are provided on route but bring sufficient food and water to be self sufficient. The 20 mile is a great beginner loop and a treat for a family oriented ride. The 40 mile is a fast, fun and challenging route fit for all riding levels. The 50 mile builds on the 40 mile course with some additional climbing. The 100k is a true adventure that will put any riders mettle to the test. Free meal provided by the Lyndeborough Women's Club will be waiting for all riders upon their return to the Historic Lyndeborough Town Hall Center. It will be quite the ride and a food spread sure to dazzle the senses.

Hope to see you all there and bring your friends!

Last year's course was super duper fun and 39x18 was the perfect gearing! Food after was spectacular!

    Good people, I highly recommend!

Last years 40 miler was a blast! I can't wait for more. PLC is a fantastic organization, definitely worth your support!

Most people wait for the muse to turn up. That's terribly unreliable. I have to sit down and pursue the muse by attempting to work.

Default Lodging Ideas for 2016 Rose Mountain Rumble

For those of you traveling a bit of a distance to attend the RMR, here's some suggestions on lodging / bed and breakfast:

-Camping in Greenfield State Park (Greenfield, NH)
-Inn at Crotched Mtn. (Greenfield, NH)
    -Greenfield Inn (Greenfield, NH)
-Little River Bed and Breakfast (Peterborough, NH)
-The Hancock Inn Bed & Breakfast (Hancock, NH)
-Maple Hurst Inn (Just outside of Bennington, NH)
-Jack Daniels Motor Inn (Peterborough, NH)
    -The Birchwood Inn (Temple, NH)

Some areas of interest if you're looking for GRUB before/after the event if you'd like to try something else in no particular order:

    - River House Cafe : Greenfield, NH and Milford, NH
    - Harlow's Pub : Peterborough, NH
    - Kogetsu @The Boiler House (Sushi) : Peterborough, NH
    - Twelve Pine : Peterborough, NH
    - Nature's Green Grocer (Coffee : Sandwiches : Healthy food/groceries) : Peterborough, NH
    - Toadstool Books : Peterborough, NH (Good Coffee and Sandwiches!)
    - Pearl Oyster Bar & Restaurant : Peterborough, NH
    - Peterborough Diner : Peterborough, NH
    - Nonie's Restaurant & Bakery : Peterborough, NH
    - Red Arrow Diner : Milford, NH

The closest "metropolitan" areas would be Manchester and Nashua, NH which are approximately 45-50 minutes by car from Lyndeborough, NH.

Strange Brew is a Brew Pub in Manchester that is goo and Republic Restaurant in Manchester, NH

    That should get everyone started.

ALSO: The Francestown Store (which is on all the routes) has ONE HECK of a Beer selection... So if you're looking for some liquid courage in the middle of the ride, when you get into the town center, it's only about 50 yards to your right. Make the turn. Pay a visit. You'll thank me later...

This was an outstanding event and am aiming to schedule a vaca/trip to include it again this year.
It's worth coming to and supporting a great organization while you're at it.

    I will pile on ...

    Last year's course/event was fantastic!!!

Took advance of doing Chris's extra 10 mile option last year (50 miles total). Bring a few easy gears for that 10 miles...

I will definitely be there again this year.

Kicking myself because I just found out my club scheduled their century for two weeks earlier than usual and I'll be volunteering there for the whole day.

You bet. I am definitely there. Kris laid out a great course last year. Some pavement. Some dirt road. Some snowmobile -ish tracks. I figure with 100k loop it will even more great stuff!!

It is perfect for my Spectrum mtb...the with drop bars, 73.5 head angle and 27m road tires.

Also, there were enough people to make it fun but it wasn't a mob scene.

The Lyndeborough Women's Auxiliary deliver a pretty good food spread. That should suffice unless you need something with some extra kick in it?

Will be double checking things for the last part of the 100k in the next handful of days. I'll be sure to share some pics here of the "special" parts of that route...

This event and the post-ride meal were both outstanding last year. Planning on making it again this year.
Pleasant people, fun routes, not packed with thousands of riders.

Still disappointed we didn't get to say hello. This year for sure... I'll be on a 44.

Perhaps we can coordinate a VSalon gathering spot ahead of the pre-meeting

I'll be there early. Gather around the black and gold thunderbird...

Speaking of which. What will everyone be bringing? Let's see your choice of weaponry! I'll kick off with my personal Huntsman. 1x11 38t with a 10-42t XX1 block. Black of course:

My ride - my new Spectrum Ti Di2 road bike
    Gearing: 52/36 with a 32 on back
Tires: 25s (or maybe 27s by then) with 95 psi
    Color: white of course :)

Last year I used my Calfee road bike with 25s with 95 psi and 53/39 and a 30 rear cog.
There was one sharp uphill on the additional 50 mile loop section that it would have been nice to have had an easier gear.
There was one sharp downhill on the regular 40 mile loop where it would have been nice to have a wider tire because the surface was loose with a turn at the bottom.

I tend to ride my road bike on everything ....just because...

    I'll see your black.

Tires could be Schwalbe Marathon Race 35's, Conti CX Speed 35's or Schwalbe G-One 38's.
Gearing could be 50-34 or 48-36 up front, a 13-29 or 12-30 out back.
Pump might be painted to match by then.
