I just thought a few years ago he was being a whiny baby when he got miffed that the audience was cheering his underdog opponents. He felt he had earned the adoration of the crowd by being the better player. He couldn't seem to understand that in the US it wasn't personal. I found that in Europe, it was far more common for people to root for the better player on that principle alone. Yay, you're the best. In the US, there is a profound love of rooting for the underdog, even if we quickly dismiss them with a hearty round of applause when they lose and move on to congratulating the favorite afterwards. We knew you'd win but we just couldn't resist rooting for the other guy.

I also don't like that he uses the net-cord for points more than anyone else. He usually clips the net 4-5 times a game for a point. He does it so regularly it cannot be accidental. Then he waves "oh sorry - cheap point." C'mon, own it. Yeah I did it. I'm not sorry.

I don't think I've ever seen Nadal act like such a brat before. Kind of hilarious. How many times does he touch his ears nose and face before every serve in a regular match?

Medvedev almost had Mr. Twitchy cornered there, but he fumbled the break point and never quite recovered. For someone who started out on the dark side of The Force earlier in the tournament, he played a good hard match with some real brilliance. Sounded like he won some fans over by the end of it.

It was a close match, well played on both sides. First 5 set final in years.

I was fortunate enough to be at the match last night. After the first two sets I was certain Nadal would put the hammer down and walk away with it.

Kudos to Medvedev! The crowd was going absolutely bonkers!
