I'll have these RS Seat Lug Survival Kits on my site very soon.

To bring Richard’s design to life and make something better than anything previously built; we used aerospace grade stainless steel and our best processes. Consistent with the work we do on fasteners for aircraft, rockets, and submarines; we precision machined both the nut blank and bolt blank complete from solid bar stock. The pitch diameter of the bolt was held to a tolerance of .0004 inch (10 microns) prior to cold forming the threads on our dedicated thread rolling equipment. Rolled threads result in a part that is 30% stronger and has a superior surface finish. Similar processes are used to manufacture our patented Cross Spikes™ product line. The care put into this one component demonstrates that whether you are making parts for airplanes, or for bicycles, the details matter.

Richard Sachs, is, well, Richard Sachs.

You know him. You know what hes capable of. You know what he builds, you know his flavor, and you know how consistent he is with everything he does.

    The Way

So much going on here. No materials. The dark. The light. Shadows. Tubes and lugs and drill bits and bits of A.O. cloth and a design and a client for that design and a willingness to pay for that design come soon, and then there’s me arriving – when all of it shares the same personal space, who decides if each step in the process has enough value to continue on to the next one? We all have a way. We each have a different way. Some can knock these out in hours. Some take a full week. Others have no calendar. But there’s always a standard. The standard. And we have to meet it. To raise it. To be able to repeat it and then repeat it again again. And we all need a way to measure it. And we all need a way to measure ourselves.

    All This By Hand

    Richard,

I'd appreciate any insight you'd care to provide on the evolution and current state of what you do with your seat stay caps.

That point almost always draws my eye first on a any lugged frame.

    Thanks,

    Bernie
