I have a couple teammates who use it a lot. They seem to like it.

I have neither a fancy trainer or a powermeter, so I can't partake in the fun.

I see all those riders use Chinarellos. They even have spacers on virtual bikes, ugh.

I've seen a lot of rides on 'Zwift Island' on my Strava feed from the racing set

It's because Zwift is using the GPS profile of an island in the South Pacific.

It seems kind of cheesy, ok really cheesy, but maybe it would be fun. What it needs is a mod to make it like Mario Kart that would be cool.

If I'm going to play video games, I don't want to have to pedal a bicycle.

And if I'm going to pedal a bicycle, it's not going to be in front of a TV.

Why do people feel the need to list all of their bikes in their signature?

I ride the trainer only as a last resort to stay fit when conditions are impossible outdoors. And I'm a grumpy old man who dislikes the video games that are turning our kids and grandkids into unsocialized vegetables desensitized to violence. Despite this, I can see how this would be useful/fun and somewhat motivating when the trainer becomes a necessity. I'm writing this at a point when I haven't been able to ride outdoors for two weeks with snow, ice, and work so my viewpoint might be slightly more charitable than what I'm intrinsically inclined towards. Zwift is to cycling as masturbation is to sex would be the relevant SAT analogy.

Nordic skiing, ice skating or fat bike is the solution. Riding indoor is for hamsters, not human beings.

With you on that - Nordic or snowshoes for me - however, sometimes work interferes and the gym/trainer become necessary early morning or late night. Trust me, it's the court of last resort.

trainer is an easy way to get a quick workout in if short of time or outside conditions impossible

i have been riding a bkool trainer every other day for approx an hour. did a piece of a stage in the vuelta today,
its painless really. thousands of routes, varying difficulty, trainer adjust resistance to terrain so you have to shift, believe me.
keep some fitness while waiting for the snow/ ice to go down.

I'm all for anything that can break the monotony of trainer hours. Years ago I used to have this "GameBike" thing that would plug into a Playsation. You could "drive" cars in racing games using your bike including a cradle that held the front wheel fro steering.
Crazy, and not really training per se, but over a long Chicago winter it got the pedals turning.
I tried to sign up for Zwift a while back, but haven't heard anything back from them.

I used to be the anti-stationery riding and riding indoors at all guy until I hopped on a Lemond Revolution two years ago. Now, there are no stop signs, waiting for others, or cars, or concerns for dress, or flats or broken spokes. It's 1-2 hours of intense, uninterrupted pain. That other solitary activity mentioned earlier usually lasts 3 minutes, give or take. But it's a bit less painful atmo.

So you want to take most of the fun out of cycling, leaving only homicidal hounds and pot holes for entertainment.

Ya - and it leaves more time for self-reflection, or whatever the 2015 euphemism for the activity is atmo.
