    Default Words from Lemond

Lemond comments on www.cyclingnews.com (edited as I had incorrectly stated VeloNews)

Interesting stuff here and how the logistics of the sport have changed. As recently as 1992 it seems like amateur hour in terms of his participation in a publicity event.

Anyway, Greg takes the opportunity to take a cheap shot at Lance.

    Greg Lemond:

"My favorite for this year’s Tour is Alberto Contador. Last year, he not only had to beat all of his competitors, but he also had to race against his own team, for which he deserves another yellow jersey.

My Lance Armstrong prediction? Either he will not start or he will pull out just before the race enters France. I have a feeling that the world of cycling is about to change for the better."

I don't think the first one was cheap--if anything, LeMond lived through a split team situation with Hinault so understands what AC went through.

The second, maybe...guess that makes me cheap for agreeing with it! ; )

It's going to be an interesting Tour fo' sure...

I for one am hoping GL knows something that the rest of us are about to learn.. the other interesting tidbit is that Levi is scheduled to tt early tomorrow as the weather is supposed to be bad later in the day.. Why not LA? Agreed, it will be an interesting TdF one way or the other.

We'll see. The FBI has yet to move in. Nor have the French police or anyone else. The collapse of Radioshack had been predicted but they're still going to start. Or so it seems.

Anyway, I am not agreeing or disagreeing with Lemond, but at some point his case isn't helped by taking cheap shots in the media. Sometimes less is more.

He should let his own legacy shine rather than trying to drag someone else's through the mud. The truth will come out and Lemond making all the accusations and negative statements simply smacks of sour grapes. Don't get me wrong, in my eyes Greg Lemond was without peer on a bike. One of the all time greats. A better rider in my opinion than LA.

    wow.

was there a reported gag order with his trek settlement?

    if so, whoopsi daisy....

i agree with what someone said above--at some point the quips and/or cheap shots, a.k.a. cryin' wolf, just get old. if there's something to be said, say it fer cryin' out loud. stop the sobbin.

    to wit:

(umm, is this really from 1980? good heavens....)

personally I think GL has shown more restraint than i gave him credit to have- in regards to: Landisgate. I figured he would be doing late nite infomercials about the whole thing

When Lemond finally fesses up to his own doping I will start to listen to him. "The Lady Doth protest too much". . .

    He needs to stfu.

We get it. He doesn't like Lance, now shut the fuck up and get on with your life. It cost you your brand, and now it's costing your cred.

Maybe the Wall Street Journal interviewed him for the article that is coming out on the opening day of the Tour. The WSJ is claiming it's a bombshell article on Lance and doping. The jackals are beginning to circle. I think the omerta of cycling is about to collapse. The coming year will see a flood of tell alls, immunity deals, depositions, etc., etc., I doubt any details will be left uncovered. Aside from LA, who is toast, I wonder if it will bring down all Bruyneel's riders current and former including Contador.

And yet LeMond is right more than he is wrong.

I fully suspect he is right here again.

He is shining a spotlight on one irrefutable truth though; the sooner Armstrong dries up and blows away the better.

This is the right answer. It wins the prize.

Really? I'm sure that GL is right, but doping didn't start or end with Lance. Do you really think getting rid of LA fixes the problem?
It's like blaming the financial meltdown on Bernie Madoff. Sure, you took care of the most egregious example of hubris, but you haven't even scratched the surface of the bigger underlying issue.

I'm starting to thank that nobody even wants to fix the system. It's easier to just throw stones at the most visible riders.

I don't think the governing bodies will survive this. The selective enforcement, incompetence and corruption will be exposed in Technicolor. Wether that means we get something better is another story.
