Belkov complained the night before the spaghetti was overcooked. The motels cook was not having it.
Glad he was not hurt bad.

OT - These CA Technologies ads - wtf? Ad has a stereotypically arrogant IT salesperson leading four stereotypically befuddled customers on a sales tour of a hypothetical factory. It plays over and over because CA is a sponsor of Eurosport coverage. Feels like a tone deaf advertisement that actually portrays everything that is wrong with tech right now.

    Back to regularly scheduled programming.

I'll take any company willing to invest in cycling at the moment. Keeping (team) Cannondale afloat would be great.

Must have been scorching hot & dry today. A lot of the riders had salt crust on their jerseys from the rapid evaporation.

    Quick-Step again. Impressive.

Slightly OT but: Carlton Kirby (Eurosport) is damaging my calm.

What is the NBC commentary like? Is it less abrasive?

Surprised yesterday when Wilco Kellerman did not respond to Zakarins attack toward the finish stage 15. With Poels still pulling tempo for Froome I wondered if he was already thinking about the ITT. (saving seconds now vs gaining more tomorrow).
All the attackers get smothered by Sky's domestiques and pay the price in GC unfortunately.
That is, even though I would like to see Kelderman on the podium.

Well Wilco Kelderman hopped over Zakarin, so it may have worked, though Nibali put in a shark-worthy ride in the TT and staved off any further upward momentum by Kelderman.

I think NBC Sports Gold feed might include Rob Hatch? He's actually very good. He has a much better rapport with Sean Kelly than Kirby does, so it was great during the Tour de France when Hatch and Kelly were doing the presenting here and there during the race.

Jorn, NBC Sports Gold initially featured Matthew Keenan with Baden Cook for color commentary but Cook departed a couple stages ago and a former Giro stage winner from Australia stepped in. I have not heard Rob Hatch on the Gold feed at all. I liked Cook a little better than the new guy but they're both fine. Tim

During today's TT there was a bit of an anomaly on NBC/Gold where they kept cutting to Nibali and repeatedly said how he's losing massive time. They seemed shocked that he came third on the stage and only lost that minute. A quick reversal was made there. Must be hard to keep track when just monitoring the screens.

Eurosport said the Vuelta-provided timing clock was going haywire during the last several riders, at least in terms of splits and on-the-road placements so they were madly scribbling and doing the adding and subtracting in their heads, which resulted in some befuddlement.

Great finish. Classic Vuelta ox-and-wagon width road up the side of a wall.

Nibali once again managing to pick his moments and find another hole in race.

I remember Denifl from another stage win with IAM Cycling, no? He looked really good, even on the steepest parts.

Contador was running a medium cage rear derailleur and some kind of cassette with a 32 or larger lowest cog. He had his spin going on that's for sure.

He has done this before too. I think some of these guys definitely use inner chainrings smaller than a 39 for climbs like today's.

This photograph also depicts appropriate sock length.

Yes, if I remember correctly, Contador was one of the original SRAM WIFLI users in the 2011 Giro.

Multiple riders on 32 with a longer cage derailleur they said.
If Zakarin and Nibali go for broke on the Angliru (stage 20) I fear for Keldermans 3th place and Froomes 1st maybe.
Kelderman said his wheel slipped sometimes when out the saddle, Contador, on a bigger gear, did not seem to have that problem.

Did anyone else have trouble getting the Vuelta on NBCSportsGold today? I emailed their help desk and got back an email that the problem had been rectified and that they'd get the replay online, but that does not seem to have happened. It was like the race dropped off their map for a day because it shows Stage 19 tomorrow and all the previous stages before 18 on the replay . . . .

NBC Gold got today' stage on part way through and covered the critical part of the stage.
