Lance Armstrong told me to ride my bike at least 10 miles/day for 10 days, so today was day 1 of that challenge. 31 miles. 91 degrees at 10AM. Ouch. Careful east coasters, it's not going to be a pleasant weekend.

    Rode indoors today.

Took the kids to Udvar-Hazy this morning to hide from the heat (along with ten thousand of our closest friends.)
    Awe-inspiring, as always.

Humidity in the heat has been crazy. Got out for an early easy loop on the trail along with the deer flies and mosquitoes so no mid-ride scenery pics today instead there's one from the lot. I laughed so hard when I unfolded these...thanks for the healing wishes @youknowwhoyouare

Friday was the last day of riding. Our route completed the circle, running us up from the south to our origin in Furano while taking the long way for another view of the farmlands that make the area a basket of fruits, vegetables, flowers and dairy. Such a small area relatively, but it is packed to the gills with high quality farms. There are fields of onions that look so perfectly planted that it wouldn't be surprising if at harvest, each onion pulled itself out by the shoots and dropped itself into the nearest packing box. Anyway, the highlight was the bowl of soba we ate at a literal mom-and-pop soba shop. The husband was in the kitchen slinging noodles and the wife was running the table service and ringing people up. And the interior was plastered floor to ceiling with Japanese writing and business cards, plus a few photos from the owners' family scrapbook. After that we got drowned by pouring rain that started just as we touched our bikes and continued until we reached the bike shop where we dropped off our bikes. Fortunately all downhill. The owner of the inn where we stayed our first night in Furano welcomed us back for our last night with a stack of towels to clean off all the muck and grit while waving away our request for a hose and sending us upstairs to our room for showers. 35 miles FTW.

A week chairing a dork-fest (aka a neuroscience conference on cannabinoids) in Barcelona meant a three-day ride to avoid taking an airplane (and squeeze in a quick bikepack at the same time. Ride-clothes, work-clothes, plus everything needed to chair and attend a week-long conference packed up on the Breadwinner from Marseille to Barcelona. 630-ish kilometers and two overnights, arrived in time to shower, put on a collar and kick off the conference jams.

Pics up on the Insta and fetched on VSalon here: https://www.velocipedesalon.com/foru...tsh-52804.html

Good week for me - got on an actual bicycle for the first time since I tore my quadriceps tendon April 1. Sunday I got on and off a couple times to make sure I could do it and rode half a mile up the road and back. Tuesday I did a real ride with my old friend Phil, who I've been riding and skiing with since 1986, and who is recovering from almost dying from an aortic dissection and stroke last year. We rode up the bike path for half an hour, then turned around and came back. It felt great! Well, really, it was pretty shockingly uncomfortable. But it was great to be out.

Rode with Phil again on Saturday morning and we went farther, probably 15 miles or so. My knee felt better but man does my butt get sore.
This is great progress. Pretty sure I can get through the D2R2 Green River Ride in a month.

    Coffee outside on the weekends.

Saturday metric century plus in 90+ degrees.

Sunday a nice 50 miles with a visit to Blue Mountain in Peekskill to watch the Chainstretcher mtb race.

    And drink coffee.
