Agree on the "hot" part. Santa Ana's started yesterday, was over 100F today and tomorrow. Last Wednesday and Thursday, it was raining. Ma Nature is very confused.

Re-posting this to the correct week...

Definitely a chill in the air for the commute home tonight.

Bpught a set of used wheels (Belgiums on Kings) and they rode real nice, going to ditch the Gatorskins for 32mm Compass tires.

    Saw a couple of turkeys.

After the early frost monday morning, my after work hours were spent trying to harvest sweet potatoes. Unfortunately the rodents had found the crop first and the number of undamaged sweet spuds was tiny compared to the amount of garden area used for them. Need to re-think this for next season...
I did pick another large basket of tomatoes though...

Did a short ride yesterday on casual clothes and shoes. There were too much people with dogs to go fast in these woods anyway.

Today's lunch ride was completely different. Proper training for CX albeit using the MTB while the CX is in the bike stand :

Last race of the summer was Sunday - took a spill at km 60 when a wise individual decided to ride up on the sidewalk, then hop back down right when the group (at this point, the break of about 25) got pinched into a one-lane and approached a speed-bump. He hit the speedbump right off the sidewalk, tumbled and took me down with him. Hit the deck and spent the next 60km chasing, starting picking off stragglers around 125km and finished 12th. Somewhere there's a worthwhile picture of my bloody hip hanging out of torn bibs...

In the meantime, here's the view from km 85 after mounting the big giant in the middle of the course..

otherwise the rides this week will be recovering from the above (i.e. tranquille).

Another day of pushing the trail onward. Today's carnage: my shoes. Time for new kicks.

    Don't look so bad, eh?

First ride on the new 28mm Panaracer Gravel Kings. I kept it short but hit a lot of different surfaces.

This street is actually better on the torn up sections than on the rest of it.

New MUT coming. Following this had lots of varied terrain including "nice try but you're walking this one buddy" (not shown here)

It cooled to mid-80s today and fog is tentatively begging to creep over the bay. Still staying in canyons and redwood groves to escape the heat. 22 miles with 2500' of climbing, apparently ridden sideways for additional difficulty points.

I posted yesterday in last week's thread in a sort of pre-post since this week I would be doing more of last week in interval sessions and recovery rides.

It was supposed to rain today (according the report when I went to bed) which was fine for me as I kinda like doing intervals in a light rain and I had a work thing scheduled for 3 hours when the rain was supposed to be heaviest.

I woke up to an email from the work thing cancelling it, which sucks from a buying parts basis but was great from a time...which is irreplaceable...basis.

The bonus was that while I slept they changed the forecast to BEAUTIFUL SUNNY TEMPERATE.

So, I borrowed my step-kid's saddle bag for tubes and CO2 (carrying extras of each and the Silca were too much for the pockets and I now over prepare to prevent all need of parts) and set out into Central Park from the apartment, out of the city, up into the Bronx, into Westchester along the Bronx River Parkway pathway. I never liked a saddle bag because of how it made the bike look but I kinda like the no "load in the shorts" kind of feeling as opposed to what I always have had with stuffed jersey pockets. Anyway...

While much smaller in water, the path did remind me of my other place of happiness Mont Tremblant with all of the rivers and chutes....

But some of the bridges on the trail are a little short and I had to walk and duck (which is odd because I am not even average height)...

IMG_1051 by Jon Mandel, on Flickr

Like I said, a LOT of chutes....

IMG_1050 by Jon Mandel, on Flickr

And I ended up at the Kensico dam which is in a town called Valhalla....the dam is awfully large and I wanted to figure out how to ride the top of it but I was afraid that I wouldn't get back by sundown...

So, the most amazing thing aside from it was an awesome ride that was even more awesome because it was an unexpected weather and work cancellation gift was that it was a metric century roundtrip...apartment door to apartment door....to the meter. Just totally stoked.

Rode today after work. 32 miles, I'm at 5991 for the year so tomorrow will be significant. I'll try to remember the camera. It's fall-like for Texas, it was 72 when I rolled out at 5pm and 64 when I returned at 6:45pm. A base layer would have been nice.

I took a little tumble on the MTB on Sunday afternoon and landed on my left shoulder. After the "landing", I knew that I hadn't broken my collarbone, but i could hardly lift my arm, which had me a bit worried. Things were feeling better by last evening in terms of movement and range of motion, but I thought that I better play it safe and see the Ortho, as there is a lump near the top of my shoulder, which didn't previously exist. It doesn't hurt that I coached two of my Ortho's kids, so getting an appointment this morning was as simple as sending a text message.

To make a long story bearable, I rode to his office this morning and received the good prognosis after the x-rays...no torn, separated or broken anything, but a nasty sprain which will take 6-8 weeks to get back to normal. No meds to take and no real precaution other than no heavy overhead lifting for that period and "Bob, please don't wreck and land on the same shoulder for a while."...duh. Anyway, here are some shots of the Allegheny River early this morning, as his office overlooks the river trail. Stay safe out there and when given the option, don't wreck.

Great long weekend get away in Little Compton, RI

Stayed here for 4 days right on the water. This is our 6th year.

    Morning view when waking up.

Even the cows have water front views.

This home was in the middle of know where. Gorgeous views. Entire home was made of field stone.

Of course many drinks and food after the ride.

Of course our little ones had a blast

Great times had by all. And already looking forward to next year.

Shout out to NBX in East Providence for delivering 2 bikes 45mins to LC. Dean was great to work with and make this trip that much more enjoyable.
