Finally the Seattle weather has left the northeast, so headed to New Paltz for a day trip with honey bunny. Took the newish trail right from town up to Mohonk. Hampsten and Rock Lobster providing the lyft for today...

Took the new MTB out again yesterday afternoon and the first thing I noticed was the saddle hurt my ass. I rode anyway. I felt like I was slogging along pretty much the whole ride. When I got home I checked the seat height because my knees told me to. The post had slipped quite a bit. I went ahead and swapped out the saddle for an old Fizik Nisene and checked my setup with a square to match my setback with the gravel bike. Should be better.

Two very different types of rides within 40 miles of each other. One of the reasons that I love NY.....

Yesterday, Fire Island for 9 miles along the ocean and back through the "inland" route of Burma Road...

And today half round Manhattan, over to Brooklyn, and through Queens back to Manhattan. Different kind of wall displays. In Brooklyn I discovered some advertising which has a friend's daughter as the model...

Both rides fantastic in their own special ways.

Went South in Manhattan until picking up the River Esplanade at 37th, off that and down through Chinatown with all of the signs in Chinese. Past the Greek Church with its Greek writing and over the Manhattan Bridge.

Through Brooklyn with signs in Spanish and restaurants serving every type of ethnic food.

Continued along Ocean Avenue for miles with all signage on both sides in Hebrew.

By Sheepshead Bay with so many signs in Turkish and then Coney Island and Brighton Beach with Cyrillic signs in the Russian communities which then mixed into signs in Arabic.

The clothing changes of the others on the street were constantly different.

Over the Gill Hodges bridge to Queens and Jacob Riis Park. There is a lot of oceanfront in New York City.

Rode through Belle Harbor and the massive houses to Rockaway where there is a new ferry service back to Manhattan. So I got on and hung my bike.

It was great (although this picture is really poor) to see the lady of the harbor who is so apropos of the different cultures I passed through on the ride...

And it was a great view coming home to the part of the city that I live in having been refreshed about the many varied peoples that make it truly Great.

It is said that one of the great things about the subway is that no one else on it looks like you nor do they look like each other.

That is what this fabulous ride was like.

Loudoun 1725 Gravel Grinder here in VA today, with a buddy.
We did the 40 miler and it was the right length for this pair of overworked dads of young kids. That said, I am already putting the 60 on my must-do list for next year.
Amazingly well run, esp given it was the inaugural event.
Perfect weather, super fun dirt/gravel, and easy logistics.

The only thing lacking was a second front chainring to keep up with my buddy on the downhills.

If you are willing to ride wet roads, the tree tunnels in Surrey are nice this time of year

Got a century in 2 weeks so yesterday went out for 62 miles on my own. Stopped here after 2 hours uphill into the wind on crappy chip-seal roads - the next 30 miles was much easier!

Seemed a decent place for a stop - particularly this week. This tiny village in the middle of nowhere has quite a long list from both wars.

It's not the years, honey. It's the mileage.
