Spent all morning on the beach so only managed a short spin in the afternoon. Took a turn on onto a new road and was pleasantly surprised with the scenery.

Today's ride included the newest part of the Bruce Freeman rail trail. Busy but not crowded and plenty of people out riding who might not do so if they didn't have access to it. It won't be a regular route for me because the roads that parallel it are fine for riding but I'll head back there with binoculars and a camera at some point because it has some good bird/wildlife viewing areas and some public art I want to check out in more detail.

Yep, I looked up black caps and they look the same. Around here they're called black raspberries (distinctly different from blackberries) and black raspberry is a flavor you'll find at just about every ice cream stand in the area. Guido probably has first dibs on these as they're not far from his house. I'm not much farther away but across the town line.

Which patch are they from? Are those on Tuttle Lane? I generally just go the to garden to pump and carry water, then scurry home... We have a few wild black raspberry patches in the back, but they are far out performed by the cultured varieties and blackberries we grow...

Yes, near the far end by the stone foundation. Probably a decent enough amount if they were to all ripen at once and the animals didn't get them,

Early morning ride with a bud and we were almost licked to death by this rabid mongrel...

From the front yard. Benign neglect is great fertilizer.

pushed through the massive heat and humidity yesterday to round out the weekend with over 100 miles, which is a good way to start July.

The bottom photo doesnt do them justice, but finished off the night with some massive tomahawk steaks. low and slow followed by a reverse sear with the grill blazing at 750 degrees in a fiery flash. so good.

Finally had a chance to get back in the saddle. Can't think of a better (read flat) way to get in the miles than Chief Ladiga Trail in AL.

    Ladiga 3.jpg

70 miles of this never gets old...

    Ladiga 2.jpg

And I fell back in love with the 586. I had forgotten how nice this thing is...

Oakland-SF to Isla Vista, just north of Santa Barbara on July 1-5. Stayed in motels, wiping down every knob and surface in the room as soon as I entered. Unexpected headwinds first two days and expected tailwinds the last three. Fun time. Monterey County coast was spectacular.
