Wow! Thanks for the great post. I was born in the Finger Lakes (Seneca Falls, NY) 67 years ago. One of my sisters still lives near Ithaca in a town named Groton. The riding in that area is great as your pictures show. Thanks again!

Took the Helix out for 34 before it got hot. The wind shifted a little early adding a degree of difficulty. Heading to Flagstaff in a few hours to do some shredding on the Coconino tomorrow morning. Actually I'm just riding some flowy stuff but I used to shred.

I drove over to Paint Rock Valley in East Madison county/Jackson county, Alabama. You can ride north to Huntland or ride south on AL65 and climb Skyline.

    cotton field

The road is very scenic and there's little traffic. This old farmhouse had some interesting gingerbread on the gables.

It was a hot day but most of the road in the valley is heavily shaded.

I got close to the AL-TENN state line and decided to turn back. I took the road less traveled on the return.

The road was most chipseal, with some gravel, leaves, moss, etc. making it seem even narrower than it was.

At first I thought I was dodging a stick but it was a snake. I turned around to take a picture and realized it was a rattlesnake.

Just up the road from the snake, I saw this sign.

    I couldn't see much of a trail

33 miles, 3139 feet of climbing.

62.5 mile metric century with my wife in the Shenandoah valley of Virginia. I sucked big time during the last 20 miles as I think that I was dehydrated. More water next hot ride...

The entire family is out of town for a week, so I am enjoying the peace and quiet.
A hike at Great Falls this morning, followed by a short MTB ride at Wakefield.
Longer ride on tap for tomorrow.

Most people wait for the muse to turn up. That's terribly unreliable. I have to sit down and pursue the muse by attempting to work.

Maybe this would be a good place to stop for lunch, lots of cyclists here...

The cloud show last night over supper suggested the strange weather to come...

How skinny are the skinny tires in that threesome? 700x32?

Failed to get over to D2R2 for a number of reasons. Went on a couple rides around here on nice steamy mornings. Saw my pal the fisher cat again, this time crossing the road on NYS Rte 160 in Pattersonville, about a half a mile over along the ridge from where I saw it last week. All my life I've never seen one, not even growing up in Vermont, and now twice in a week and I'm sure it was the same one.

I plan on seeing the cool stuff you see over in Franklin County next year, though. Even if I have to quit my job.

Congrats! Best gig in the world. We have three and each is a delight.

Our oldest grandson is 4 next week, and somehow:) loves bikes. He's been on his Strider for almost 2 years, and is getting a pedal bike for his birthday. This summer he loved watching LeTour with me or his dad, and at the Tour of America's Dairyland loved the crits -- each lap he'd excitedly exclaim "the car is winning, the car is winning."
