It was a great morning to start the holiday weekend...stay safe out there as more drivers are taking to the roads.

Beautiful weather today, 21 degrees and sunny, perfect for a nice spin in the east bay hills. While I didn't ride faster than usual, it felt easier. I guess finding times for 6Ĺ rides a week affects performance.

Even after riding a fat bike on the snow, I always forget how tough sand is. But the tide was low so the sand by the waves was quite fun.

Great way to spend an otherwise grey day.

    Newport, Rhode Island:

On my usual route, many times I've passed an entry to a mysterious driveway. Someone has started an art installation pop-up kind of thing and I finally stopped to check it out and take a couple pics.

Obligatory bike pic at entry way:

Just a few feet away you see:

All of these works are either brightly painted dead branches/fallen trees or live scrub trees:

    Thirty yards in you see:

I went no further because I worried that the druids might get me. Another thing that gave me pause was the machete leaning against the first installation . . . . Next time.

I didnít realize that Memorial Day didnít become an official holiday until 1971, even though its origin is traced back to the Civil War, and it was originally known as Decoration Day.

The Forgotten Black History of How Memorial Day Started | Time

"According to Blight’s 2001 book Race and Reunion: The Civil War in American Memory, a commemoration organized by freed slaves and some white missionaries took place on May 1, 1865, in Charleston, S.C., at a former planters’ racetrack where Confederates held captured Union soldiers during the last year of the war. At least 257 prisoners died, many of disease, and were buried in unmarked graves, so black residents of Charleston decided to give them a proper burial."

Most people wait for the muse to turn up. That's terribly unreliable. I have to sit down and pursue the muse by attempting to work.

My employer gave all employees worldwide Friday off, to rest and recharge. So I recharged the best way I know how.

Thanks. It's gone through a number of guises, but the current 650b setup is really really sweet. Very happy with it. I need to try out some other 47c tires, the Byways are a little stiff but not bad...

I didn't process that it was on 650s. Looks like an extremely versatile bike.
